it is a simple action to create and move off topic stuff to another part of the forum, that or simply delete posts which do not enhance the thread, yet issuing bans is the easy option as it takes less of the mods time. The forum will be a much poorer place if these two great posters (who I think are complete and utter cocks) are singled out while others have just posted absolute garbage in the CV thread and remain intact, we have had posters wishing people had died that are without a ban FFS.

There are not enough mods and admins, 3 admins plus 7 mods can cover this place easily and not resort to taking the easy option of banning people, when will the next mod elections take place, who can move "upstairs" etc etc etc

Banning is lazy and uncalled for when there is a much easier option.

Most of the complaints will have been about ONE thread, so banning works???????
The bit in brackets made me really laugh. I see you are fresh back from a respect at work course

I thought the ban was harsh at first but having seen that the mods had told Raefil to stop only for him to not, hence making the forum a worse place, I feel the decision was justified.

I find both sides need to get their heads together. A bit of fact checking from both sides, as well as respect for arguments but accountability when people step the line and self-reflection after that can go a long way.

Two things.

(1) How about a reinstatement poll - for the will of the people.
(2) I'm ready for the Football to return for what this forum is about and less of the crap.

No more shite from them though - I'm missing the posts - hope they will tone it?

raefil politely showed the mods how easy it is to set up an off topic thread where those who go off topic can "enjoy" their banter and move the offending posts to it, dead easy and the way it used to be done, very few bans and people who wanted to continue on topic in a thread could, those who posted shite could continue to do so "off topic".

Can't say I disagree! It's something that should be done more too, and I hope the mods take that feedback on board.

That's my take on it, i know one of the bans was issued without any warning from the mods.

Yes the mods job is a thankless task but personally i think the bans for all concerned are ott and for too long.

people put themselves forward though (and having done this when we had some members who make this lot look like the Wooden Tops) and it just doesn't work without the numbers, 7 mods and 3 admins can cover this place nearly every day, splitting threads is easy as is just deleting them and sending a message to the poster giving reasons.

I seriously think a round of mod elections should happen soon, I would stick jake and one other "upstairs" and stop this banning crap. (however those issuing deaths threats and similar should be banned for ever.

Who's talking death threats? I may have missed some stuff cause I came back to about 40 pages to read through today.

I'm not sure why you've taken a one sided story at face value but if you think the people in question haven't been told weeks ago what was happening, then everyone has read what JK put on the site. But yeah I'm sure the bans came out of nowhere, completely unexpected. No one saw it coming as all of them behaved impeccably. If they want a daily therapist to talk through their behaviour we aren't the right people.

I'll take onboard Bills comment about moving more stuff to Off Topic in future but it's a best efforts case.

jake, this is why we need more people in green and a couple more visible admins, things are much easier to manage with more mods.

I have no clue what’s gone on (if anything) all I can say is, when things are getting a bit much it’s better to leave for a little while rather than vent. There are always a few desperate to win up and annoy on here and make matters worse. To be very fair to the mods its hard to get the right balance if they remove posts they are wrong and if they don’t they are wrong same with banning. I really like both raefil and Nobber they are both good posters, neither one afraid to give as much as they get. Having said that, we need to be clear what it is we want, more moderation or less. I would be surprised if they are banned because both take a lot of gip.

Insinuating another posters mother was a Nazi, was a step too far, so a 30 day ban (after previous repeated warnings) seems justified to me.

Forums are all about debate, but the Corona thread had become utterly toxic and far too personal for some (that’s aimed at both sides by the way).

We are all meant to be on the same side right now, regardless of individuals political views.

Posting in the manner against other posters that was being used and suggesting that posters are Nazis are fully deserving of the bans issued and while they may well turn around and say "I was only joking" it just isn't acceptable Billy.

There had been enough warnings issued publically to all posters on both sides and the fact that posters from both sides of the arguments that have been going on for the last few months shows we have been impartial.

We have tried other solutions and the message just wasn't getting through and when we had to deal with close to 50 reported posts in a matter of weeks (Jake will have the exact figures) it got to the point where action had to be taken.

Hopefully once the bans are up people will start to behave in an appropriate manner.

I left that thread a few weeks ago so I have no idea who said what to who. All I can say is that I have had my disagreements with raefil but, I have always liked and respected him and he has always been respectful to me. As for Nobber the same applies, I can’t say anything detrimental about either and I’m sad they are banned.

I enjoy the funny, witty posters and this forum is made all the better because of them. To me that doesn’t extend to insulting and being spiteful to other posters though. I don’t get it but, I do understand some people find amusement in the “anything goes” policy. I don’t report or ignore people even though some posts are very distasteful and that is why, I agree with Billymac that an off topic section for those that get pleasure in insults or find it funny, to be able to do so without banning. I (and others) can chose to ignore that section then and enjoy the funny and also the very informative posts and debates without fear of name calling Etc. I think it would be less time for admin and mods to spend refereeing everyone and more time to enjoy why they joined the forum if nothing else.

This News and Current Affairs Section contains a cabal. They will never admit it, even though they are often accused of it. The members of this group-in-all-but-name, act like the forum’s immune system. Immediately they see a group member being attacked they launch an instant auto-immune response. Surrounding the threat, they overcome them with a potent mixture of outrage, deflection, smears and ridicule. Eventually the poster succumbs and quite often leaves this section of the forum.
Ironically it is an uncanny microcosm of the party I vote for (Labour) and is just as unrepresentative of the general populace. No wonder we cant get elected.

That said, they will be missed and I look forward to their return.

Names have been changed to protect the innocent guilty. So that's 30 days of squealing summarised in a lovely clustered bar chart
