Matchday Thread PNE v Stoke City - 9/03/24 - KO:3PM - Championship

Thought the same regarding Browne
He'd git himself into a good position to stop the cross.
He didn't though.
Been excellent this season though
He shouldn't have to play in that position but we all know that
Where is the business sense, or even hint of a plan, which has you paying a couple of mill for a striker, the much much higher wages of some well acquired new players, some loans some not and at the same time going into another season without a single wing back in a side that plays the wing back system!! You have to say under those circumstances in this league, our position is amazing! Two points here though, the actual mentality of not having a bloody clue how to run a football side goes right to the top, with the fat controller, its common knowledge Risdale is bloody clueless both financially and football wise, some would say to criminal levels in both!!! But the second point is, knowing you have not been allowed to procure the type of players you need, how much of a one trick pony must you be, to still try and play to that system, anyway the result is very similar to watching a one legged man,in an arse kicking competition!!

Where is this Stoke weren’t much better crap coming from?

We had 4 goal attempts to their 13

We had no corners at all to their 6

They were much better than us and wanted it more.
Two bad sides. They weren't much better than us, watching the 90+ minutes.

Honestly first season he did ok , but since then I really think it’s another position we need to strengthen . Today at least twice or maybe three times he hesitated and got lucky and grabbed the ball at the second attempt . His kicking is that bad he takes an age to eventually kick it out of play or to no one .
People on here have been saying this for months
It's something that could be sorted but never is.

We are a bit of a one trick pony, counter attack and high press specialists. Fortunately most of the teams in the division play to our strengths by overplaying out from the back. We are pretty clueless against teams who play like Stoke. The Rotherham game could be a season low point.

Most disappointing thing was the start. We barely touched the ball on first 5 mins and that set the tone.

What's the reasoning for bringing Ledson on?

And wouldn't Holmes have been a better bet?

A mind-numbing game, all in all. Dour. They usually are v. Stoke at Deepdale.
Did Ledson touch the ball?

Poor performance on an equally poor pitch with an equally poor ref.

We’re definitely performing better against teams that try to play against us.

Need to lose some of the squad players like Ledson and Woodburn and replace with the likes of Mads and Osmajic

In this game it seemed like Ben Whiteman is returning to the form he had in that long crap run we had. Coming out of that spell, his improved form was one of the factors in the resurgence. I hope this is only a 'blip' for him & us.
