Matchday Thread PNE v Rotherham Utd - 29/03/24 - KO:3PM - Championship

A good professional performance today. Rotherham didn't make horrendous errors, they are just L1 standard players.

Mads had a field day, huge quality in everything he does. Love watching him.

Completely understand the drop off in the second half. The goal difference ship has sailed, we are soooo far off Norwich and Cov. Important to save batteries for Monday.

Why has the goal difference ship sailed ,only if the challenge for 6th is with Norwich, should they drop off and the 6th position is between Hull and North End then the GD will be important.🤔

Not sure if I am a bit slow but I think you got a word or two wrong in there. I have read it three times and I am not sure quite what you’re saying PNE have done in the past.

Anyway, I certainly remember Good Friday being on the fixture list when I was growing up - with the 1978 promotion season having fixtures on the Friday, Saturday and Monday. Special train(s?) and all.
I have half a feeling that games might at one time have started a bit later on a Good Friday to avoid 3pm. Or was that just an idea that I used to think should happen?!! I can’t remember! I do definitely remember arguing that we should kick off at 3.15 or 3.30 - I think on this forum, which would suggest it’s been an issue for PNE in relatively recent years… after 2010.
I don’t think I got any words wrong, I honestly can’t remember many games on a Good Friday afternoon until very recently. I’ve been an ever present since 1981 and since then I’m pretty sure there haven’t been games for any season that I can remember at 3:00 until recently (and recently is around 10 years). Even the 1978 game at Chester seems to be unusual as there weren’t any for the years around. We had one against Portsmouth that was played at tea time in 2013 and that’s the first one I can remember since 1978.

I really hate to go here but our club seems to have ignored what today means to Christians.

Under Lowe, we’ve never gone for the jugular, his priority is always to hold on to what we have, often the right thing to do, but against Rotherham!?
Rotherham were unbelievably poor, a great opportunity missed to get our GD positive.
Radio Lancs pre match said they had spoken to the Rotherham back room staff and a 2 or 3 nil defeat was a positive for them. 🤔

Agreed, it’s not often I am disappointed after a 3-0 win but I thought we should have gone at them in the second half and tried to win 5 or 6 nil, they were awful and low on confidence…..

It didnt feel like we'd won 3-0 when coming off at the end of the game, the 2nd half was very flat, but i guess the players will have conserved a bit of energy for Mondays game with it being such a comfortable performance todfay

Rotherham were shocking, we took our goals well but failed to capitalise on an opportunity to claw back our poor goal difference.
I thought that but the goal difference is a distant ship on the horizon…..far too late to do anything about it.

Everyone else (other than the TV games) kicked off at 3pm today so you cant criticise the club for that one, and many years ago, when the general population were more religious than they are today, games were played on Christmas Day
I meant in terms of acknowledgement - a tweet saying we had no choice for instance, a message to us like they do for other religious festivals, even offering the use of a prayer room.
