Matchday Thread Gentry Day - Watford v PNE - 6/04/24 - KO:3PM

I love PNE so much that it just stings when we play like that.Where was the urgency the last 20 minutes?I can't 100 percent see Lowe playing for a draw but certainly looked that way.Disapppointing and thing is still could have won if Keane and Hughes had been a tad more accurate.

On to Huddersfield, great away fans on our Gentry Day,and safe travels home.

I guess so, we did slow down which was a bit shite, but who steps up to have a go and turn it on though in that scenario? We played every striker we could at the same time, that didn’t work. Will admit he made the Mads change way too late, but the team was all defenders really, can’t just turn Whatmough and McCann into Clarence Seedorf.

The reality of the situation is, we don’t have a very good depth of squad, our starting 11 are good enough to give anyone a run in the division for the first time in a long time, but behind that a lot of those second string players wouldn’t be out of place at top end league one sides.

Birmingham was the real shitter, that was the one that killed the season with all the circumstances, and when we lack even one or two of our best players we aren’t actually that good.

Disappointing of course, petering out of course, but I think circumstances have massively killed that today after shitting ourselves on Monday.
I'd have settled for not killing time on goal kicks and throw ins. Some attacking urgency would have just been a bonus.

Since our last foray into play offs in 2015 we have actually achieved the square root of fuck all in 9 years. Just let that sink in....9 years of mediocrity and no advancement
Whilst other teams have advanced, been promoted, relegated..promoted again...we stand still. In my 60s and fucked off with always being mediocre and the bridesmaid.
See you Tuesday 👍🏻

Yeah fair play, won’t work last 10 when you’ve had to bring Stewart on Cus everyone’s fucked though. Couldn’t win a gold fish on field day never mind a header against anyone who weighs over 10 stone.

If we had lost by chasing the win, I absolutely guarantee the same people here criticising for the draw, would be criticising Lowe for losing.
Utter bollocks, he just might have had praise for showing some balls and at least go for it. I’m sure the majority would rather us go down fighting whilst giving it a go.

For those saying we’ve no hope, remember the season when we had a shit goal difference but turned that around by beating Cardiff 6-0. We sneaked into the top 6 by one goal and had to win our last 3 or 4 games and hope Cardiff lose all theirs.

There is still hope left, not much I know, but while there’s still hope…

If there's a lack of intent, of course the fans have every right to apportion blame.
Yeah, he's turned it round up to the Stoke game.
Since then, it seems he's gone back to the norm.
You can't dwell on injuries in games like this, annoying as it is.
You've simply gotta go for it an we haven't done that
Exactly. Despite being depleted, we had somehow got to the 70th minute still on level terms. Surely that was the time to bring on the likes of Frokjaer and Holmes and have a real go? Yes, we could have conceded, but so what, a draw is no good to us. I for one wouldn't have criticised him if he'd gone for it in the last 25 mins and we'd lost.

But basically, he was happy with a point and to wait until the 82nd minute to make attacking changes was unforgivable.

I really can't believe what I'm hearing on Radio Lancs with the pundits.
"Oh well, it's still a good season"
"A point isn't a disaster" after today's results.
Christ!

Work in progress. Squad not up to it yet when we get injuries. If we can get a few more quality players in the summer then we can have a proper go at the play offs next season.

Absolutely in my eyes. We are a million miles off any of those sides in the top 7 in my opinion in terms of quality of the squad as a whole.

Massively irrelevant to the point but we’d of gone down with a whimper in the play offs anyway.

Lowe had his hands tied with how we started that game. With no squad depth whatsoever and browney seemingly vanished into the ridsdale triangle, it was always going to be tough.

But the lack of intent to actually win that game was shocking. There is now 3 teams between us and Norwich. That final playoff spot is no longer in our hands. Even if we take 6 from the next 6. We have blown it yet again.

What's annoying me more than that is that people are seemingly happy that we got a point today. Another season in the championship beckons. Can't wait for the pre season propaganda to start again for season ticket sales

"Another season with nothing to fear and nothing to celebrate. Another year embracing the purgatorial void. Another year of drifting aimlessly around the second step of the pyramid. Not a disaster lads! Now over to the weather."

Actually thought we did ok. Had the much better chances. Just lacked a bit of quality with our final pass.
Only 2 gripes were I thought our set pieces were poor and the subs should have been 10mins earlier.
Need 3 points Tuesday to set up a huge game next Saturday its still doable 🙏.
Ali McCann was absolutely exceptional today and Greg wasn't far behind. He's an invaluable squad member, on and off the pitch.
Roll on Tuesday
Great to get such an optimistic comment! And you're right. But someone in our management team needs to give them a kick and tell them to get a move on. Especially Woodman. Watford commentator again today , towards the end of the game
: "...... And the Preston fans are booing their own keeper for time wasting!......"

That just about says it all
Nailed it. I felt for Freddie at the end, he clearly took the booing (over him not releasing quickly) personally, but it's not aimed at him. It's aimed at the overall setup of settling for a draw, especially in a must win game. That was a no-lose situation at the end - if he hits Mads early, we MIGHT create a chance, and if it doesn't end in a chance then it's full time anyway. The way that played out is a reflection on the conservative tactics we've returned to lately.

I really can't see it in him. It's harsh but he has far too many Woodburn characteristics. He's slightly taller I guess.

Same here, I keep forgetting he’s 21, he’s built like he’s 17 or 18. Who knows though might turn out alright.

Definitely not a player for the bench in a play off chasing squad though.
