Yes, because football is just like any career - you should be evaluated by your manager and be put in an environment well-suited to your ability at that time. As I alluded to earlier, if there was a player in the youth team who was deemed capable of playing consistently well at Championship level they would be in the side far more than they have been.

Are you suggesting we put these players into an environment for which they've done nothing to show they're ready? That'll definitely go well...

I said nothing at all about this, but why not? They're probably better players and we wouldn't pay their full wage. Some of our best performers in recent years - Iversen, VDB, Archer, Cannon, Alvaro - were not our own players.

The issue is that PNE get these loan players and rely on them, then they leave a gaping hole in the squad when they go on to bigger and better things. They should be used as supplements to an already healthy squad, instead we use them like steroids.

Teams have been successful doing exactly what you're saying that I'm saying, e.g. replacing it with a B team - Brentford.

As stated before - if we're not going to put in place a proper pathway from youth team to first team and are just going to let young players rot on the bench or in the stands in favour of putting Evans, Woodburn, Ledson or whoever else on the pitch, then what purpose does the youth team actually serve?

Once again, putting words that I've never said in my mouth - but don't let that get in the way of the point you're trying to make!
 
Just back home and not read the thread but starting with two strikers neither of which can hold the ball up together with a makeshift midfield and Holmes as wing back was asking for trouble. Keane and Cunningham should have been on from the start; not that we really had a chance of winning against a much superior footballing team.

You make some good and valid points. Especially about a pathway but it is hardly the players fault if that is blocked by usually by an under performing senior player who is selected solely to justify his higher wage. Playing the likes of Evans and to a lesser degree Brady at their stage of career is just blocking the aforementioned path. The way we are going we will be offering and playing players into their 40's.
Whilst I realise the standard of player is higher at Premier level surely it would be better to buy one made available than loan and return having given them the experience at our level. That pathway is always going to be blocked and our own products go by the way.Going back we have BOUGHT the likes of Macken, Healy,Mugdock,Appleton and Robinson and prospered without having to return them after a season. These were all players made available by their clubs at the time.

Agree with what you’re saying Motion Man, for me the most annoying thing is Lowe hasn’t learnt anything from the Birmingham game regarding Holmes; add to that the fact he doesn’t seem to understand the basics about his squad (I.e Keane should start as he’s the most effective at closing down the opposition defence) and it is clear Lowe is completely out of his depth.
 
Back from the match. Tonight proved, if proof was necessary, that our squad is a long way short of the quality needed to mount a top six challenge in this league. Our starting line up said come and get us. I have total sympathy with Duane Holmes. First half saw us taken apart by a decent footballing side, however the lack of purpose and leadership was inexcusable. Thankfully Saints secondhalf did not match the quality of the first half.
If we are to have Lowe in charge next season ,he needs to revise the system and come up with a credible plan B and the club need to recruit those players to fit the systems. If he is not at the helm then I for one will not loose any sleep . Huge admiration for those of you who made the trip.

Stop winging about what other teams have got, get your sleeves rolled up, come up with a sustainable plan and work dammed hard to progress along that plan, sooner than trying to wing it and rely on luck.

One shot on target for North End last throughout the whole of the game apalling !

My patience with him is done.

There will be no plan B whilst this fixation with wing backs remains. It works, occasionally but long term, no chance. We have struggled to get in a first choice wing back and we literally have no player, in reserve, that can play that position.

this is the championship, not Europe or the prem, were a lower financed fish in the championship so unless and until Lowe realises that his obsession doesnt work we will continue to plod along as the archetypal mid table team.

The last 2 seasons, with the odd exception, have been devoid of excitement and entertainment for the paying supporters. I suspect that the straw is about to break the camels back with the fans.


Heres the reality.

Well done Lowe, youve achieved, with me, what even Docherty, Ferguson and Westley didnt manage, driven me away, I suspect Im not alone.

Fully agree and close to the number of years supporting North End, but for me Risfail has to go first !

Doubt he would get another Championship job anytime soon. RL never admits to his wrong doing didn't he blame players early on in season also. plus coming out with the crap every other press conferences.

Great points well made. I went to my first game Easter Monday 1964. therefore can identify with your comments. I travel a round trip of 130 miles for home games and the time it takes out of my weekend is not inconsiderable along with the expense. I do not enjoy the best of health so a decision as to whether I renew for 24/25 will have to be made.

I’m not doubting it’s not a level playing field but it can be done. But not by north end

The club doesn’t have the ambition and the manager is absolutely miles off it.

The current structure will never bring success.
 
We are now back to playing the type of football ( if you can call it football) we’ve seen for three quarters of the time Lowe has been here, sit back and defend and hope for a miracle. Hardly any shots at goal let alone on target then Lowe comes out and says we played well when we created nothing .
Sorry Ryan your out of your depth and are not good enough to manage in the championship the amount of times the whole team haven’t turned up in matches has been far to many . You are supposed to motivate then ,have a plan B make substitutions that counteract what the opposition are doing better than us , but no ,how many times has the opposition done exactly that to us but you have almost always failed with absolutely baffling substitutions that leave the players and the fans wondering what the hell the formation and the tactics are .
Yes the injuries have to an extent limited your options especially in the last few weeks but it’s now over two years and you seemed to have learned nothing and are back to talking absolute drivel, in-fact sounding like Westley mark two .
I voted you out over a year ago and nothing has changed my mind . But unfortunately our owners will be happy to just plod along with a mediocre manager , mediocre players whilst expecting the fans to be happy with performance’s like last nights . 🤬

Don't blame you! I was just curious to see the body language if anything. Browne stayed around the longest. Brady was there for a while. Lowe applauded from the back (always seems to do this when we loses but will be right at the front if we win).
