Club Takeover/Investment

Club Takeover/Investment

There’s obviously risk involved but we’ve been pretty shite for over 60 years now and stewardship under the Hemmings regime has been a bit like being on a hamster wheel.
If the product on the pitch improves I’m pretty sure we won’t have any problems filling Deepdale so I would be more than happy for the current custodians to complete due diligence and pass the reins onto someone else.

Yep. I completely respect that point of view. I’ve been going on 50 + years and seen no real success, but the latter years have certainly been better than the average of the rest. Personally , I don’t care if we drop a league or 2 because the new owners can’t sustain what the current ones have done. As long as I still have football at deepdale to watch. That’s what matters to me. If the product doesn’t improve though I do suspect that many of those wishing for a new owner will not be so tolerant.

Due diligence is really something done by buyers , not sellers. Once you have sold an interest in a business, you cannot dictate how the new owners run it. All you can do is check whether they have the funds to support it. You can’t check if they are actually going to use those funds to buy a new striker etc.

I am happy for any change as long as Preston North End continues to exist.

I am highly sceptical about whether any change in ownership of the club will bring about any improvement in the teams performance or fan experience.

I would suggest with 90% certainty that the ratio between what we pay to get on the ground vs the standard of football we watch will deteriorate under new ownership.

Within that 90% I think we have a 45% chance of getting an owner like Blackpool or Bolton - local rich fans or backers of a fan led trust, but without the resources of the Hemmings. The other 45% is we risk becoming a basket case like Sheff Weds or deteriorate like a Bradford.

We do have that 10% chance of finding a new owner that might bankroll success. That’s what we all want. But we are not London based or in a wealthy area and we do have one of the smallest fan bases in the championship.i worry about how attractive we are. Someone with £200m to blow on an English football team would be far better buying SheffWeds and clearing their debts than buying North End. Sorry to shatter people’s dreams, but having spud bros on the shirts and making a decent job of-the Liverpool friendly will only go so far.
Last sentence
Wrexham say Hi.

We do have some room for growth so I’m hoping someone is genuinely interested.

Preston as a city is growing massively with great transport links, room to improve the academy, finish the top of the invincibles and make Deepdale accessible for concerts etc.

There’s plenty of ways to make us more self sufficient with the right strategy and plan, here’s hoping.

I always hope that the story of us being the original Invincibles, fallen on hard times, would be an attractive proposition for someone to rejuvenate the club.

Respectfully I just don’t understand the point of view of just wanting a game to watch at Deepdale. Why not just go on the local park and watch one then. I don’t see the point in being in a competitive league and then not bothered if you keep losing or drawing. I know we can’t win every game but, we should be trying to win every game and being the best they can be and seek to be improving year on year surely.

I could easily say why not just watch Man City then, then switch to Liverpool when they take over as the best team. . It’s simply because PNE is my blood. I would rather watch us in the conference north than watch another team just because they are more successful. Football is not all about the premier league to me, or if we do get in the premier league about getting to Europe , then winning that etc . I want us to win every game and if we are not trying to win every game I will be angrier than most ,but I just realise that isn’t going to happen. I have far more respect for the supporters of say Rochdale than I do Liverpool , though I aspire to be more like the latter .
I do appreciate though that is not how everyone thinks and if we do drop down a few leagues some will indeed abandon us and support another club. Likewise if we go up we will get new fans.

You’d think so.

There is such a fantastic history to this club - obviously not just the Invincibles and founder members, but also things like the oldest continuously used ground, the first black professional footballer, the first serious women’s team etc etc.,.

Not to mention the fans, who’ve stuck with the club through 64 years of mostly being either mediocre or pretty rubbish.

People might say we’re not a sleeping giant, but in many ways we are. We’ve been there before. It’s in the blood of Prestonians. Give the good people of Preston something to really get excited and they will respond in numbers.

We’re not called Proud Preston for nothing and I don’t believe any group of fans would feel more proud of their team than Nobbers will if we go up.

And to whoever does eventually take over after the Hemmings, I can’t imagine the feeling you’ll have if you manage to get North End back to the top flight. What a story that would be.

Because I’m not from Manchester or Liverpool and have no connection to them. As you say, we see it differently I lose heart with the lack of progress and I want our club to absolutely be the pride of Lancashire. I agree about respect for supporters of any lower league clubs though to be fair, mainly because they get out of their armchairs and have local pride. Thanks for your response.

Your last 3 sentences sum up the present ownership perfectly. We all know the funds are there, just that they choose not to spend on so many parts of the club, including to buy a new striker.
I admire your dedication to the club but find your ambition a bit underwhelming. As a club we have spent a large majority of our time in the top 2 divisions, I've been fortunate enough to see us in all 4 divisions. Competition is tough these days but that is all the more reason to set our sights high and with the right ownership I believe we have a better chance of achieving them than yourself.

Be careful what you wish for. Are we going to get an owner prepared to put in £ 10 m plus every year not to get in the Premier League. Probably not as they are most unlikely to have any emotional attachment. We could get someone who’ll give it a push for a couple of years putting maybe £ 20 m in say. Fingers crossed that would get us close but the odds are we wouldn’t get up given the strong competition and then we could be in a situation where the new owners will get fed up and funding will cease. The club will inevitably be sold at some stage that’s for certain but we need to be realistic about the likely outcome.

Burnley were exactly what we were, now they have been light years ahead for ages. Id be more than happy to be at their level. Upper Champ / Prem yoyo team!

Be careful what you wish for and cautionary tale posts are doing my nut in.

If I’m not wishing for success as a football club, what am I wishing for? You don’t line the Flag Market in celebration for being a stable midtable side. It’s all about success.

Even the current basket case of Wednesday, they were one game away from Premier League football under Chansiri, there were plenty of highs and nearly moments under his regime.

They might go down this year, granted. But they’ll find a new buyer quick enough who will have them back firing before long. See Derby and Coventry for that one, it’s been done before.

Most clubs of a similar size to us that have had bad owners have come back to this level, or sit a level below but have actually achieved something ie Premier League, Europe, FA Cup. I’d take L1 for a few years for a European jaunt or two and a major trophy.

I'm hoping more for a Wrexham takeover than Reading et al. If it's your Mr Beasts et al at least we will get a ton of media attention and the club will be brought to the 21st Century. Only needs likes of him and few other wealthy owners and we could build a Newcastle but probably wishful thinking. I do trust Riddler and Hemmings to do research in finding the right owners.

Yep, I'm sure people were "careful what they wished for" before the Hemmings came in, and look where that got us - eternal mediocrity.

Maybe we should try not being so careful what we wish for this time, see how that works out.

Takeover talk is just Peter’s shiny distraction for the lack of a striker coming in.

The timing of every interview he does is on his own terms. It’s got everyone talking about something else.
No chance, he's not mentioning a takeover without good reason,

They may already have an offer on the table and he's trying to stir other interested parties, or maybe read the room from the fans point of view I'd expect things will move quickly from now on -

We all knew the day would come when the Hemmings family would sell up, I think we've reached that time now. I wouldn't be surprised to see Craig involved in any potential consortium, genuinely think he'd welcome the chance IMO

I'm sure he'd "welcome the chance", but once the Hemmings have left, will we really still need his unique ability to hide in the shadows?

I'd much rather have a clean sweep, particularly as Craig has demonstrated no particular acumen or qualities, almost as if he was given the job unopposed.

He mentions it in most interviews or podcasts that he does though. Often says that there's always discussions but it's about finding the right people that are serious.

The only different thing from yesterday's podcast compared to others was him bringing up the point of more eyes on us since the Liverpool game and SpudBros.
