Defenders are much better than they were 50 years ago
And Felipe is not Jimmy Greaves

Review of the game by Alan Kelly and David Unsworth. Interesting discussion near the end about Dobbin.
He also played for Rovers. I have nothing against Alan Jr. but as you say his dad was a legend. There was another son Gary who kept nets for Bury.Alan Kelly was Not a true PNE Legend, but his Dad was, he played more games for Sheffield Utd than us, fuck him, I love his Dad thought. 👍
And Newcastle UnitedHe also played for Rovers. I have nothing against Alan Jr. but as you say his dad was a legend. There was another son Gary who kept nets for Bury.
Wasn’t there a third son who played for Fulwood Amateurs? He also played for Rovers. I have nothing against Alan Jr. but as you say his dad was a legend. There was another son Gary who kept nets for Bury.
No doubt you are correct but I wasn’t aware of that.Wasn’t there a third son who played for Fulwood Amateurs?
Harry Kane then 😉Using an example from the 50s-60s is a terrible case.
Would also struggle in the modern game. More technical players up top, who are more physical and probably quicker, and make more intelligent runs. Plus no freedom to do what they liked by refs.Bobby Moore, anybody !
Calling Harry Kane a tap in merchant is like calling Osmajic “a bit hot-headed”Harry Kane then 😉

The only players that would thrive in the modern game are the tricky wingers, because they were getting lumps kicked out of them back then and would know have greater protection from refs.

Regrettably, there seems to be a trend amongst certain self-appointed 'experts' on here to patronise and belittle those they disagree with, rather than debate respectfully.I’m going to hold your hand when I say this

Great defenders like Moore would have adapted - and go back a little further to players like Billy Wright.Bobby Moore, like his peers back then, No Grabbing, No Grappling, No Pushing, No Pulling Shirts and then disputing the obvious with the referee.
Waiting for a corner or free kick coming into the box is more like all in wrestling, it is not very technical.
A very modern deterioration in football standards and enjoyment.
Why are you getting offended on someone else’s behalf? If @QUITE ALL WHITE has a problem with it, then they are welcome to say so and I’ll apologise. But don’t white knight on other people’s behalfRegrettably, there seems to be a trend amongst certain self-appointed 'experts' on here to patronise and belittle those they disagree with, rather than debate respectfully.
There's no need for it.
Yes, there was, David. Played in the same team as him in my younger days.Wasn’t there a third son who played for Fulwood Amateurs?
His name was David. He worked for Ribble Motors down Frenchwood Ave, he was a decent keeper.Wasn’t there a third son who played for Fulwood Amateurs?
Handsdown,Why are you getting offended on someone else’s behalf? If @QUITE ALL WHITE has a problem with it, then they are welcome to say so and I’ll apologise. But don’t white knight on other people’s behalf
Is that in descending order of ability?Handsdown,
Felipe Gentile Rodriquez, Jimmy Greaves, Bobby Moore.
