I’m with you @ernest and would be content to have Thompson as McCanns back up in our only defensive midfield position. As things stand presuming Whiteman leaves we don't need to replace him because we already have his replacement in the form of McCann with Thompson if we can't move him on as occasional back-up. What we need in our central midfield is a big infusion of creativity - I understand Hecky admitted the other day that we never replaced Armstrong. Well now is the time to do so.
I would be looking to play a 4-1-4-1 formation which gives us 5 offensive outfield players and 5 defensive outfield players.
However without new owners / the assurance of new owners I’m not sure we could attract the type of quality we would need to make this work.
This Barcelona debacle has highlighted that the ownership thing has to be resolved ASAP.

Yeah was just looking through League 1 for options thats all so threw his name out there. If im honest, there doesnt seem a great deal of quality domestic options, which is concerningYeah, Archie Collins isn’t up to the level we need to be trying to replace Whiteman with, and doesn’t have any potential for development
After the previous posts I was genuinely worried you were going to say you’d rather have Mark Leonard back . Glad I read the full postNormally against going after ex-players but I certainly wouldn't mind a Pearson return.

Gonna have to have a re-think about that lad, I don't think he can be trusted in a combat situation.

Love us to take a look at Noah Mbamba from Leverkusen (Loan probably). Ranked well for stats in the Belgian League last season. Quite tall and looks like he can do a bit of everything.

I would've taken Harvey White. Luca Connell is probably the next best one there. But Barnsley have a +1 option on his deal, so I reckon he'd probably end up costing around same amount, if not more, than likes of Gore, Collyer and Humphreys from the Prem teams.
There's Charlie Savage but I think he's too weak.

If anything highlights the pisspoor summer here (Devine the exception), it is this.

Cry me a river. It's a suggestion to add some genuine quality and experience to our midfield that we are sadly lacking.

Feels too left field that one for us but we have just signed someone from the Belgian league, albeit based on his stats from playing in Sweden.Love us to take a look at Noah Mbamba from Leverkusen (Loan probably).
