Matchday Thread Bolton Wanderers v PNE | 15.08.26 | KO:12:30pm | Championship

If you offered me a prime Messi or never seeing Liam Lindsay in a Preston shirt again I’d pick the latter.

I simply cannot watch him play football anymore.

If Hecky or anyone at the club still can't see we need a CB, then I fear the worst.

I didn't have much of a problem with the line up except that backline (although some of the frontline subsequently let me down).
If we're to progress, we simply cannot be starting (still!!!) with a backline of Hughes, Lindsay and Storey.

Given where their only threat was the decision to start Pol over Offiah is mind blowing. Equally to make no subs until after an hour is just as bad. Changes at half time we’d probably have got a draw.

Bolton obviously deserved the win, but we’ve missed two of the easiest chances you’ll see for a professional footballer. Terrible to not even hit the target from either (in fact one didn’t even result in a shot).

It’s only one game and it was probably the worst time to play Bolton, but if there’s not at least 5 changes to that starting 11 next week the manager will have serious questions to answer.

Lindsey the biscuit tin head .. strikes again ..
some positives ..
Offiah. Should have started the game
Leroy. .. that little cameo portends to being a main player
Erabi .. two games two goals .. enough said
We were shit but made enough chances to at least scab a draw
If we are going to play with full backs. Vukavic ‘s crossing ability puts him in poll position ..

Heckingbottom to blame for that awful team selection .. and late subs. If he’d made the justified changes at half time I reckon we could have won it .
"Lindsey the biscuit tin head". Love it. Now we know who Count Binface is!

We all know that we have some players with limited ability at this level, but to be hamstrung by an absolute dinosaur of a manager just beggars belief! With the exception of a couple of performance during his tenure, Hecky’s record is shocking ….. and he needs to go, now!!

FFS - we were up against league one squad and he decides to play that starting eleven, in a formation that hasn’t even been practiced at match level - what a complete tool!!

Can’t see Heckingbottom lasting long with performances like that. So negative, slow to react with subs. Pol should have been hooked at HT. Bolton won’t have an easier game all season. Some shocking misses by Milly and Lindsay though.

Few thoughts...

Subs did change the game. However, should have happened sooner. It feels like the subs are forced upon Hecky, rather than him proactively changing the game. So don't think he deserves any credit here.

Like I said at half time, actually have far more control over the game and less chance of being torn apart when they are more positive. Ball stays higher up the pitch and having Erabi's physicality helps. Also gives us more opportunity to win the ball higher up the pitch and actually occupy their defenders a bit more. Leroy looked to have FAR more quality than others, as I've said.

The blueprint for the next match should be the last 15 mins. It's there for you. 2 up top, allowing Erabi to be a nuisance and giving attacking players a bit more freedom. Offiah at RB, clearly. Wouldn't suprise me if Erabi starts up top alone which would completely negate the threat though, probably means he won't touch the ball or really be able to influence the match and just show more tactictal ineptness. Thoughts...
