4 at the back.......!!

4 at the back.......!!

A game lasts 90min mate the aim being to win 3pts ... something that the manager seems to do 50% of the time he sets a team up.
For info ... no points awarded for winning at half time .....

So our home form didn't cost us last season?

If we look to play for 0-0 at half time we will score far less than the top teams hence why our goal difference is inferior....

We spend too many games hanging on or allowing the other team to gain confidence and attack us.....

What are his home and away stats?

His stats over the last 14 months since he built 'his squad' suggest that we should be a tap in for promotion come May.
Promotions are gained by consistency over a season mate not by winning 3-0 at half time IMHO ...

We do drop too many points at home by not killing games off or going for the jugular sooner

I am just wondering how many on here realise that over the past 10 league games (including today's match) that Scunthorpe have earned more points than Bradford City and Swindon, the same as Sheffield United, and just one less than North End and MK Dons.

I think when judging a performance one has to take into account the quality of the opponent, and at least in points gained over the past 10 games, Scunthorpe are up with the best teams in the division, and North End took the three points and kept a blank sheet.

This was a banana skin game that our team managed to avoid slipping up.

Fuck me there are some thick fuckers on here. If you didn't realise we reverted to a flat back 4 in the second half then you might as well give up now. What game do you fuckers watch?

We were at home not really bothered if we played four three or five at the back. I'm sure during different passages of the game we played all these.

Attacking wise is what I am more concerned about Joe Garner how many did he miss today , I counted two, attacking options from central midfield first half not too many. Dangerous crosses from left or right? Overall pretty poor first half.

Second half was a different story especially after we scored , it's confidence, we created alot of good chances and it bodes well for our remaining home games.

We can win this league as champions with the right tactics from the off.....!!

sign of a good manager,to change tactics to win a game, find a teams weakness, moyes changed things at halftime lots of times, how do you know how the other team is going to set up before kick off.grayson change things and went on to win the game.

It's poor management to have to change your team at half time to match up to a team below you in the league... We could have easily been behind yesterday at half time

I tend to agree but the one thing I would ask is could he have changed it earlier? It wouldn't have been overly difficult to ask Clarke to switch to full back during the first half.

you obviously do'nt know much about football with statments like those.

Did Scunthorpe play with a different formation to their last 9 away games of 5 wins and 4 draws?

If they did fair enough but we should have done our homework prior to the game.

Yesterday we didn't change tactics due to Scunthorpe overcoming us. Again wing backs were found to be too negative.... Humphrey was too deep and also Johnson was sitting too deep.

I could, and so could many PNE fans, tell you that playing Johnson more advanced would create more.

The other week (can't remember) the game we took Wright off for Wiseman at half time as wing backs weren't creating anything. Yesterday we started with wing backs and were creating nothing..... a good manager would 1) know what does and doesn't work and 2) learn from his mistakes.....!!

I've had one poster tell me we play for a 0-0 to half time, I have other posters not even notice we actually switched to 4 at the back and now your telling me SG is a tactical messiah as he was able to switch formations to combat Scunthorpes formation.

We are the home team, we are one of (if not the best) teams in the league and we should look to kill the game off by half time. Teams will come to Deepdale and the majority of the time be happy with a point. If we can be up by half time then they have to come and attack us to equalise therefore we can hit them on the break or continue to attack.

By picking a line up which is consistently showing to be failing at home we risk only having half a game to break a team out who will be more confident they have got through 45 mins unscathed.

He's clueless pal.

In fact I'd go as far as saying the Mods should ban him from posting on football related matters.

How's your calculations coming on for how much you have spent on North End in total???

You don't add any value to the forum you are just a troll.

Could you please try and stay on topic as you haven't given your opinion on the 4 at the back or wing back situation. It's twice you have posted and offered zero input on here instead being a grade A WUM.

you would like to think so.but it will be easier to get the message across to all the players at halftime.most managers will wait till halftime when the score is 0 0.

We could have easily been behind at half time and had created nothing due to the tactics that have shown to not work at home though. Is that not poor management to constantly pick a formation that doesn't work at home?
