Ben Whiteman

Ben Whiteman

The midfield looks a lot better without Browne. They all have their different limitiations but they can at least handle and pass the ball in the middle of the pitch unlike Browne most of the time.

Whiteman just needs more license to roam and get forward where he can do defence splitting passes or long range strikes.

Better without the captain alongside him

We all assumed Whiteman and Ledson were locked in selections at the start of the season, but they didn't exactly set the world on fire.

The team actually trying to play football seems to have done them the world of good.

Said exactly same thing to my mate when on today. Browne will find it hard to get back in.

still think we’re a proper defensive midfielder type short.

Whiteman was class today & all credit to him. Would have been some goal!
If we bring in a defensive midfielder either
Whiteman or Ledson will miss out.
In my opinion both players are defensive and attacking midfielders at the same time. Today they both made an incredible number of tackles and yet also made an immense number of forward passes. Whiteman also managed 3 decent shots.

Two of the three Whiteman shots would have been goal of the month….very unlucky.

I thought all 3 of the midfield were excellent today. Still some worrying moments where the ball was played through them very easily into acres of space but overall a much better performance.

Thought he was excellent today, lacks pace but other than that is a very good player.

If he had Ben Pearson next to him he'd be unplayable.
Interesting the one about a lack of pace - he was kept at the back (along with Josh Earl) for our attacking set pieces. Would suggest that he doesn’t lack pace.

Maybe. Or it could suggest he’s just not considered an attacking threat at set pieces.

I think if we could sell Brown would be the best thing he doesn't offer anything we are much better without him and to have him as captain is a joke, three players that would make much better leaders Bauer Ledson and Whiteman any one of them .

Difficult to disagree with this - he's been poor for 2 years now and we look a better side without him. Might be prudent to wait for Alex Neil to get a new job before we think about selling him though...

I think Ledson/Whitman looked good together. Ledson is as near as we’ve had to Gregan clattering around the centre circle for a long time. The composite started at the back. Hughes urging Earl into a forward position, Earl trusting Hughes to cover adequately. Earl bombed on and space opened up. I think we were helped by the fact that their RM wasn’t the best, go forward or back.

Yeah, probably. Surely he can’t be one of the fastest in the squad though, can he?
I honestly don’t know mate. He doesn’t look that fast, but I can’t see any other reason for keeping him at the back when we have attacking set pieces.
