Eddie Johnson Signed (Update: CONFIRMED)

Eddie Johnson Signed (Update: CONFIRMED)

We should be well happy with these signings, all things considered, particularly when you look at some of the dross that we have signed in the past.

For all we know, Johnson and Clarke (gulp!) could turn out to be dross too. 😱

Too early for us all to be well happy - let's see how they do first.

But if they keep us up I'll be, well, ecstatic. 😱

You might br right, you might be wrong, but the fact is at this moment in time you have no idea like anyone else if he is a good signing or not - only time can judge that. So surely until he has had a run of games we should back the player and manager as any negaitivity from the fans cannot help?

I know enough to understand he is not a goalscorer.

Really, and care to elaborate on how you understand this, or have you simply looked at the number of goals in appearances on Wikipedia? Have previous teams played to his strengths, played him the wing instead of upfront etcetcetc? Basically I'm pretty sure you have no idea like everyone else on here, so why not cross your fingers and hope he turns out to be the striker we need?

Well yes I actually have, it says everything you need to know.

Its about time you woke up off cloud cuckoo land and realise he ain't a goalscorer.

Not quite 100% correct Double J. At the pro level in league/cup games he has 48 goals in 192 appearances, but I don't know how many of those 192 appearances were as a sub, possibly coming on for the last few minutes.

Even so, one goal in every four appearances (not starts) isn't that bad.

At international level it is a different story...........and at all levels for his country he has bagged 49 goals in 95 appearances, or in other words, better than one goal every two appearances.

At full international level, he has 12 goals in 42 appearances. Not brilliant, but not lousy.

Fulham fan here, would love to tell you he will help you out, but he really won't.

He has only scored one goal for us and that was against Brentford in a friendly. Other than that the closest he came was against West Ham when he broke from the half way line ran past their defence ran past the keeper and missed an open goal.

The bloke is absolute Pony and no Fulham fan hates him, hes a guy that most the fans like but nobody rates him, so im not just saying it because hes gone.

I believe he scored 2 goals for Cardiff aswell and when he scored his second he got an own goal aswell.

Dont expect much. He isn't championship material.

Good luck in your battle.

Hell fellow Fulham fan... Great, if you are going to provide information but at least be accurate... he scored 2 lovely goals in the Australia friendlies in 09' and also scored this preseason against Werder Bremen in a friendly @ the Cottage (which I attended) as well as Brentford, I would suggest one of them carries a bit more weight... and for the record, he is certainly good enough for the Championship...

Goal @ just past 1 min mark

Or he has 3 goals in god knows how many games in England.

Good luck to the lad, he sound like a grafter with no end result. Which unfortunately is not what we need.

One thing you may not be taking into account was how many times he was stuck on for the last 5-10 min of a game where his team was already up and bunkering... he would often be put in for Cardiff in situations like that in order to prevent the other team from sending 9 players up into the final 3rd as teams knew with just 1 man back they had no chance in marking Eddie on a long clearence past the halfway mark...

I will fully agree that he has not reached the potential that a 3 million pound signing should be at but often the appearances can be very misleading.. I prefer to look at minutes on the pitch and the situations that went along with them...

As Fraser used to say " We're doomed"!!

No real signings that send a message out to the fans, just loans and a cheap 34 year old. Looks like we're planning for Div One me thinks. Complete rebuild required from top to bottom.

Including Owner and Chairman!!!

How do they expect people to be inspired to buy tickets for games? Anyone any idea??

I stopped by to give some insight into Eddie Johnson because I know what most Fulham supporters like FulhmamFC will say. Thankfully, gatorfootie has saved me most of the effort. Notice gator actually backs up what he says with facts and explanations. For those who say he is not a goalscorer all I can add is that for players with more than 10 caps, Eddie is the all time leader for the USA in terms of goals per minutes played. Yes, some of the opposition is not particularly noteworthy but it is still the same opposition that McBride, Lewis, Dempsey, and Donovan all faced and he beats them in that regard. I also believe he was Aris FC's leading scorer the season he spent with them even though many, if not most, of his appearances were off the bench.

As gator pointed out his appearances under Hodgson were a wash. Roy stuck him in the minute he got to the club against Manu and then Liverpool (where I actually think he did a great job of stretching their defense) most likely because he was a Sanchez signing that Roy didnt want to spend the time on when he needed to get Fulham out of the drop zone. Well the time has been spent on Eddie working with him at Cardiff, Aris, and Fulham and the improvement is easy to see. Objective fulham supporters will have to admit that Eddie looked useful for the team under Mark Hughes. Hughes obviously saw something in him. In fact, before the transfer window Hughes said that he was not getting rid of any of his strikers. So judging from the way things occurred, I suspect Eddie asked for a loan so that he could get more playing time and Hughes only agreed when he was able to get Gudjohnsen.

I'm not a huge fan of Eddie or anything, I just think that there is enough evidence to believe that he might really work out for you. He was a poor kid of a single mother from the projects when some white guy handing out soccer balls from his pick up truck introduced Eddie to the sport. It would be nice if the story has a happy ending.

Regardless of how Eddie does for PNE, I'll be cheering for you and hoping for your ascent out of the relegation zone. best of luck!

Thanks for the insight , and good luck to Fulham for the rest of the season , always been made welcome when visiting Fulham , think the 1-0 win on a Tuesday night from a Michael Appleton corner ( although memory could be playing tricks ) was a great night when both times where riding high , think you had Tigana in charge at the time , also remember a 2-2 with Davy scoring , the good old days where we could at least feel pride in our teams , or again thats perhaps a fading memory , had a few drubbings as well at CC
