Matchday Thread Gentry Day - Watford v PNE - 6/04/24 - KO:3PM

For those saying we’ve no hope, remember the season when we had a shit goal difference but turned that around by beating Cardiff 6-0. We sneaked into the top 6 by one goal and had to win our last 3 or 4 games and hope Cardiff lose all theirs.

There is still hope left, not much I know, but while there’s still hope…
But that was just Cardiff that we needed to lose.

We now need Norwich, Boro,Coventry and hull to lose all of theirs too. Not a snowballs chance in hell.

Big win for Hudds today as well.

Fully expect us to have our flipflops on Tuesday now so that will more than likely be a difficult watch.
Remember that game last season on boxing day was a very poor game that one. Like Birmingham they will be battling for ever point.

Absolutely in my eyes. We are a million miles off any of those sides in the top 7 in my opinion in terms of quality of the squad as a whole.

Massively irrelevant to the point but we’d of gone down with a whimper in the play offs anyway.
Yet we've beat Leeds, Ipswich an really should've beat Southampton.
Yeah, they've got technically better players but we've shown that when the mentality an set up is right, we can ask questions of these sides.
Since the Stoke game, he's reverted to type.
Absolutely no doubt about it

Sparrow tells it like it is.
" I've seen the twice recently, Today and Birmingham and can't understand how they are in a playoff position"
He just showed that he knew sweet FA about us. There is a reason we’ve fallen off recently and he had no idea how decimated our squad was. Clearly hadn’t done his homework.

Work in progress. Squad not up to it yet when we get injuries. If we can get a few more quality players in the summer then we can have a proper go at the play offs next season.

how can it be work in progress when Woodburn (who is on fire in training) with his contract extension cannot get into the team when we have no midfielders available, we have to rely on the magnificent Cunningham to bale us out while leaving Mads on the bench for most of the game and Holmes doesn't play, how the fuck is this work in progress???????

If we had lost by chasing the win, I absolutely guarantee the same people here criticising for the draw, would be criticising Lowe for losing.
No, you can't claim that at all. If he'd put Mads on for Keane when he should have done (60mins at the latest) then we'd have almost certainly created more. And I personally would have been happy that we at least tried to win it. A draw was as bad as a defeat for us today, but we'd clearly settled for that midway through the second half.

I'm probably being a little over generous to him, but after that line-up, a lack of creativity in any shape or form was always going to happen today.

Better sides would have punished us.

I'm not the managers biggest fan, never going to be, but he ain't going anywhere unless another club comes knocking. Summer will be interesting, and these final 6 games can't just be a time for the flip-flops to come out.
Quite agree. We need to rain on others parades and these players need to prove their worth. I really can't see the cheque book coming out much, it may depend on FPP rules as much as anything. But unless the existing squad buck their ideas up and / or we sign a nugget or two next season ain't going to be much better.

We’ve beat them at our full pelt, but that’s not what I said. Nobody looks at any of those squads, then looks at ours, Hull included, and thinks Christ must be tough to pick there lineup.

No, we don’t need them to lose all their games, just lose more than us.

That was baffling by the manager, starting 11, late subs, no urgency to attempted to go for it.

In isolation its an away point but anything other than a win today was worthless.

Fans superb once again on  Gentry Day.

I'd have settled for not killing time on goal kicks and throw ins. Some attacking urgency would have just been a bonus.
Lowe has still been mentioning in recent interviews about setting his ‘little points targets’ for groups of games.

I’ve never heard such a stupid fucking idea. The target should have been to win them all.

Paul Sparrow is probably the best most knowledgeable co-commentator on ifollow

Decimated squad explains a lack of quality but not a lack of desire to win. Too many performances this season where the players haven’t look arsed

I do think Lowe got it right tactically today, but on 60-65 minutes, it was time to lose a defender for Mads and take risks on the ball.

If we hadn't lost midweek, then a draw would have been ok, but every game is shit or bust now... if we wanted top 6.

100% agree, sounded like everyone was in fine voice today JK. Shame we couldn't get a result to match.
