Heckingbottom

Go and get someone of the Roy Keane/Steven Gerrard mould. Fuck it. Both Localish, but there a top top motivator and that’s what this club needs.

What's he even saying in interviews currently? Not really bothering to have a look given how bad the performances are currently but from reading comments on here last week he's not even going into the dressing room after some defeats?!

Just feels all very strange and really should be better than this especially after the spectacular collapse in last ten games last season which was horrific.

Ive been told by someone in know he will be off to west brom soon so probablybe no need to sack him .A friend who went to Coventry tonight studied Stuart McCall on touchline and said he hardly got his hands out of his pockets which is uncharacteristic and his body language suggests he is disinterested. ZOnly worry for me is which person Peter will put in charge of the team as his appointments in general have been not good starting with his first Graham Westley who he didn't want to sack and didn't travel to Waterloo station to do it

Can see that. Rebuilding them in league one will be more attractive than just sticking around him plodding on in lower mid table.

Probably get a pay rise aswell.

Yet people praised our summer recruitment. Absolute bollocks argument that no one could do better with this squad, it's more than capable of competing for top half.

These Yorkshire twats have just given up.
I don’t think it’s a play off chasing side but it absolutely should be doing better than it is.

We have better players than Blackburn and Oxford yet we were terrible in both.

Probably need a new manager bounce, if we can't afford a lump sum payout maybe gardening leave is the way to go.
Maybe that way he would be in the shop window and someone may take the opportunity to take him off our hands on the cheap.
Not all together sure he is the total reason we are complete shite but a small shake up could just find a couple of the much needed wins to make sure of safety. then we could start the rinse and repeat again.

Was it circa £2m Hecky had in summer to re-build the whole squad (10+ players?)

On that basis he did do a good job getting the players in he did and retaining championship status. Although we were in a great position in January, I doubt anyone expected us to be a play off contender signing the likes of:

- Pol and Smith (free from Wednesday), - - Walton (playing for Dundee),
- Thompson (injured and free from Stoke).

This while we still have the likes of injured Potts and Brady in the squad.

How many other clubs reward mediocrity with extended contracts, keeping players who have contributed little - Potts, Brady, Hughes, Storey, Lindsay.

We have been poor at player trading for far too long. I believe Hecky has tried to change this with signing potential assets (Small, Offiah and now Moran).

From what I hear, Lang was not Hecky’s first choice but it sums us up as a club that our ‘transfer record’ can only get us a 27 year old crock from Portsmouth:l.

Hecky is far from faultless but the ownership of this club is where the problem lies and the sooner they sell up the better.

That's all hard to argue with, but it still begs the question, why persevere with a manager who clearly can't cope with the constraints at the club? He's done a shit job here, and could have been sacked twice. He'd be gone if the price to sack him was low enough.

Some stats from this season:

- 19th in the table for xG
- 19th in the table for shots on target pm
- 22nd in the table for big chances created
- 20th in the table for accurate passes pm
- 18th in the table fo touches in the box
- 22nd in the table for xG conceded (thanks Dan)
- 7th in the table for penalties conceded
- 7th in the table for yellow cards
- 6th in the table for red cards

If you were to show that list to someone who didn’t know PNE, I reckon they’d say we were in or around the bottom 3, it’s a miracle we aren’t. The freak start to the season has saved us.

I’d also imagine that if this wasn’t posted on the Heckingbottom thread, a lot would assume these were stats from Ryan Lowe’s tenure.

The argument can be made that ‘he hasn’t been backed’, but I’d argue no manager at North End has ever been backed and Lowey managed to get us two Top 10 finishes with arguably a poorer squad.

I hate the fact that people can’t see two things can be mutually exclusive. He can be a shit manager, and he can also not be backed properly.

We’ll stay up again, but only just. He needs to go in the summer, new owners or not. Because with him next season and the likes of Spurs, West Ham, Wolves/Burnley coming down, this division gets even harder and he’ll take us down.

I'd argue Lowe's top half finishes were with considerably worse squads.
