Heckingbottom

Let's sack hecky . And then in 12-24 months we can sack the next bloke .
It’s sad but that’s almost certainly what’ll happen.

Sacking Hecky isn’t really a reflection of his ability as a manager. Like his immediate predecessors, he’s got as far as he can under the current set up.

We could appoint Arteta manager with Guardiola his assistant and the same would apply.

There’s an international break coming up, so there’s no rush to make a change because we only need a few more points to get over the line for another season.

Without changes at the top it's only heading one way.

Whilst it is hard to hear, under the constraints at the club I honestly think any manager who keeps us in the division is doing a good job.

We often start well but with the limitations of the squad it isn’t sustainable; hence the drop offs in form.

I have seen glimpses from Hecky to believe he is a good manager, but I think the club has beaten him and he will need to be moved on…

Not sure if I cba watching the next manager go through the same…

Apologies. That was meant to be a reply to this post. ☝️ 😊

His record is shocking, no doubt about it, and he probably does deserve the sack based on results last season and this. However, to sack him would cost money and so it isn't going to happen.

Its 99.9% certain we will retain our status as a Championship club for another season, while spending a pittance on transfers, so in the eyes of the board and owners that will be a successful season. I personally think he is a very limited manager with no plan B, he seems to be stubborn, doesn't know his best team, makes regular bizarre team selections and he has a bad attitude and temper with officials, but he is a 'yes' man to the owners and we are going nowhere while he is in charge.

You know it’s bad when people are wishing Lowe was back

Is Hecky the right man? Probably not but I couldn’t care if he left today I feel so empty about the club.

We have a team of plodders that have been here too long. Hughes, storey, whiteman, Lindsay, Brady, Potts ….. we give them contract extensions but nobody ever comes in for our players. You know why? Because they aren’t good enough.

Look at milwall, similar to us and have done player trading to get within touching distance of second. We’ve got our serial failures once again plummeting down the league. You only had to see the reaction to the first goal last night that reflects the mentality of the squad.

PH was right it needs a bomb under it. I’m not arsed if he’s taken out as well but as long as you’ve PR and the hemmings at the helm nothing will ever chsnge

The place is rotten. The match day experience is rotten. Look at Coventry before the game last night with the place buzzing to their anthem. We’ve got Wallace and fucking grommit because it mentioned something about Blackpool in it. Fucking tin pot.

Things are they desperate we are playing a keeper who can’t kick, no decent back up (nobody say Cornell please) and a squad of rejects from the bottom club and loans that have checked out.

We are in a dire place.
Not a chance I want Lowe to return.

But I do think it is quite fair to judge Hecky compared to what Lowe achieved here given "the budget is the budget" etc.

Neither were / are the right fit for PNE. Mainly down to their insistence upon playing 352. PNE, like United, are historically entwined with Wingers. Wingers are an important fabric and a major part of PNEs historical DNA.

Bottom line is is that this is a results business and 22/81 doesn't look good no matter how it is dressed up.

1/12 last season.
1/15 last season.
1/11 currently.
27.1% Win Ratio.
42 Goals in 37 Games this season.

If the club isn't sold this summer, then under the IoM regime, we are more than likely going down next season or as close to.

It's a right shit show right now.

Totally agree, although Lampard was showing much more promise as a manager than Gerrard. We need someone who improves players, with the finances we have we’re never going to be able to buy the finished article. Has this bloke improved any players? Maybe Offiah but I would suggest nobody else. The drop off in Small has been marked, our awful midfield from last year is still awful, the loan players have dropped right off etc.

If we’re going to achieve anything we need someone who improves players and/or to do something different - which is why I advocated Barry Murphy or Skubala. I take on board the point about the rinse and repeat process but he’s been here 18 months or so and we haven’t improved - even with the benefit of two top notch loan signings in Devine and Dobbin and one of the best goalkeepers in the league.
Those 3 have hopefully kept us in this division.Without them i can safely say we would be in the bottom 3 .

Some good points Ken. The player trading one is a really good point. It’s something a club like ours needs to do. Sell players on and reinvest in the squad. We don’t really have the players to do that at present…and with the current regime I’m not convinced we’d reinvest even if we did get money for players.

Going back as far as Jordan hugill is a good example for me. Get 10 million for him and replace him with Louis moult for 500k. How can you possibly be expected to be successful with that sort of ‘reinvestment’!
I'm going to upset you here but...

Hugill (£9.5m) was replaced by Stockley (£750k).

Less than 10% spent on the replacement from our then sole Billionaire owner.

Maybe the crucial question for any prospective manager is, ‘do you have a plan B?’
Every decent manager will have a plan B, but regarding Hecky, he hasn't got a clue. His plan A is so predictable that teams know how to set up and play against us, if things aren't going right after 60/65 minutes, let's not change shape just move players into different positions and take off either Devine or Dobbin, or both when he actually plays them together.

Sheff United, Sheff Wednesday, Wrexham, Coventry, Norwich, not sure if there's more but of the top of my head we have conceded first and actually got any points from these games. I've felt confident of us getting back into three out of those five games. Twice because of the way we played and once cause of how bad Wednesday are.

Hecky just isn't the right man, this isn't new, it happened last year and he managed to get away with it, and probably will this year as the clubs a mess but "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me".

Lowe always setup to defend home and away which is why his brand of footy was awful to watch but helped get a mid table finish…PH was taking risks up until we had the injuries to try and win games so the football was not as dull as Lowe but since the. It looks like either his tactics or the players themselves have reverted to a defensive mentality so it’s like watching a Ryan Lowe team again.

Changing the manager does absolutely nothing. It’s rinse and repeat. We’ve been here with every manager we’ve had for the last 10 years +.

Everything that is wrong with the club and our stagnation stems from the lack of investment and nothing will change unless that does.

The current manager is a victim of his own initial success this season as it’s gave fans hope for the first time in a long time.

The end bit of this is definitely a dig at the board.

He surely knows by now nothing will change?

Coventry sold Gyokeres for about 18m and used that to sign Hadji Wright and Ellis Simms. Two long term signings who have fired them to the brink of the prem within 18 months.

This club was apparently looking at Simms in 22/23 and was messing around bidding 2/3m.

They also moved on Hamer and signed likes of Rudoni.

If Osmajic went for 7/8m then would a CF really be signed for 5m? Or two for 3m +? No it would just be gambles like Lang or more season long loans.

What was the gamechanger for Coventry was SISU selling up and Doug King coming in with new vision. Included sacking Mark Robins which was a big shock at the time but has proved correct in the long run.

You don't close the gap to Coventry by signing Jordan Thompson on a free transfer with all due respect to him.

Not sure where you’ve heard that, but it’s absolutely not true to be fair to the hierarchy

I'm pretty sure he was looked at in Jan 2023. Had a very good record at Sunderland first half of the season. Everton had massive FFP issues at the time so they weren't selling him for peanuts so kept him and then sold him to Coventry for anything between 4-8m from reports at the time.

Could see Cannon ending up on loan as the compromise and he did very well for four months.

Guess the thing there is Riis could've been sold a few months before and hopefully money would've been reinvested in someone like Simms so would club be stronger or weaker now?

Ultimately club isn't doing anything at this level anytime soon signing players for 2m and presenting them to fanbase as game changing players which is too much pressure really for their actual ability.

Fingers crossed .
You need to be careful what you wish for, people were saying the same things about Alex Neil, I thought and said at the time getting rid of him was a mistake and it’s provide to be correct. The same things are now being trotted out about Hecky. He may have his faults, but nothing is going to change until the budget is increased, also who are we going to get in that will improve things on the current budget ?

I do 100% agree with what you’re saying, it is the lack of investment and the board, but the only downside with this line of thinking is it means 0% accountability and a free pass for whoever is in the manager’s chair.

If someone is sat on a 25% or thereabouts win rate it’s shambolic regardless

We were interested. But it wasn’t us messing around over 2/3m that meant he didn’t come here. We had a fee agreed for lower than that. Lampard pulled it in a tantrum because Everton weren’t releasing funds for him to get what he wanted. So blaming the club for that one is misinformed.
