Heckingbottom

I think overall Heckingbottom is a solid decent manager who is doing OK with the resources avaliable. However, what does he dislike about Offiah that none of the rest of us are not seeing? I personally think he has been the best of our permanent signings and just don't understand why he has been dropped.

Offiahs positional play isn't great, there has been a number of occasions were he switches off, and doesn't come out with the rest of the defence. Also his heading is poor for a central defender.
I agree that he is btter than all the rest going forward, and personally I'd like to see him infront of the defence and see what he was like ala Gregan.

At the very least why not bring him on for a struggling Pol? Our best form of the season was when he was playing right wing back. Defensively a Offiah, Storey, Hughes back 3 was our most solid

Just read the LEP report from Heckinbottom on the Leicester match. Only ever mentions how dangerous the opposition are and how well we defended. Hardly a word about trying to win. God he's negative and boring.
We definitely need to upgrade next season to someone who tries to win games…

I’m not sure who that should be though…

You would think that Heckingbottom could see that wouldn’t you ??

"We need to enter February better than we left December."
We (the owners) failed to do the above, effectively taking the rug from underneath the team, which obviously felt deflated after all they had done to get us in a great position. For what he did in the first half of the season he deserves another chance, hopefully with a new owner.

He's a RB by trade, but any positional lapses are made up for with his pace, ability to play his way or bully his way out of trouble, and the fact he can pass the ball as well as anyone in the team.

Offiah, Storey, Gibson, and Vukcevic would be our best defence if given a run of games. Our back 5 setup is a bomb scare anyway, so I don't see any issues. It'd mean we can actually have another player in the opposition half, instead of just Dobbin & Osmajic.

The oppositions fullbacks would instead of currently dealing with one WB either side whom they can pin back if they get the better of them thus shutting down any attacking impetus down the sides would suddenly have 2 threats either side in Offiah / Moran and Vukcevic / Devine (as examples) which would give us the numerical advantage, presuming the oppo play 3 at the back.

In short, can we please go to a back 4 which would allow us a better attacking threat down the sides.

Find it odd that some say Offiah isn’t playing as his positional awareness is bad and gets caught out yet we had a back 3 of Storey, Lindsay and Hughes who are just as bad with it as evidenced by the continual goals conceded over the years. At least Offiah has some pace to potentially recover

Those 3 were robbed of possesion a few times yesterday.

Not particularly. Too many draws, especially last season, when we just didn’t have the quality to turn decent performances into three points (off the top of my head, Sunderland (H), Sunderland (A), Burnley (H), Leeds (H), Plymouth (A) just to name a few).

This season is obviously a completely different story, with a pretty ghastly run of form from Jan, in my opinion the result of three main drivers: Iversen injury, the pitch, and losing Armstrong.

So whilst he’s not a perfect manager, and no PNEFC manager ever will be, it’s important to look a bit deeper than just say things like ‘sideways and backwards’, or moan about subs with hindsight.
The pitch excuse is something Heckingbottom likes to have as an excuse.
Other team haven't had to change their style to suit it.
Plus it doesnt explain how we lose away from home on "better" pitches.

If one of the PNE players comes to the football pitches at a local park, would they be outshone by the local lads who play there every week - i very much doubt it.
Just got back from Leicester. I actually enjoyed being in the away end today. Good atmosphere and we didn't get beat. But I admit that shows how low my expectations are right now.

2nd half was frustrating given our lead. I've a little bit of sympathy for Hecky. Potts comes on for example at a time when we needed fresh legs. He poorly gave the ball away in their half, and then they go down the other end, another mistake this time from Pol and they equalise.

Individual errors we seem to get punished everytime at moment. Today could have been better, could have been worse too.
It was Hecky that didnt want to sell Potts.
Sell Potts, he doesnt come on and lose the ball.

Now if we are to believe current rumours we want rid of Potts - poor decision from the manager.

Had a feeling/thought today that if a takeover goes through gerrard might be a option 😬
How has the Mentality developed that with New Owners of a Taken-over-Club - there Has Automatically have to be a Brand New Manager. ?
Wayne Rooney is the Ultimate Example of this principle that this simply - doesn't work .

dont think its always the case, i think it just comes to the fact a new regime means they want to make their own appointment. But I’m pretty sure much of the fanbase wouldn’t complain if hecky was replaced

In the way Storey hacked their lad down in the first half, Offiah wouldn't need to do that as hes fast and smart enough to get back round.

I've said before I don't mind Storey in the middle, but if Offiah's fit he should be a guaranteed starter.

In the defence ,only Storey has made more appearances and only Storey and Hughes have played more minutes, a surprising statistic, the lad is probably carrying a bit of an injury at the minute, we don't want him out long term when there is very little to play for.

Because the manager we do have is turd.

I’m living in hope rather than expectation but any decent owners would sack Hecky now.

The way Storey & Lindsay continually use cropping, obstructive, body-checking & wrestling tactics is League Two at it's best.
I find it truly cringeworthy.
