Heckingbottom

Would genuinely love to know what happened in January. Will probably have to wait a few years until PH has done a few more jobs and is up for a podcast with George Hodgson or someone else as the form just completely dropped off a cliff for two months after the Bristol City win.

I don't think he'll be here next season regardless of any takeover. Think he and McCall will walk in the summer so really this season is all about finishing top half so that looks more tempting for his next employers.

Can't see him walking without a pay off unless the job comes up that it is too good to miss out on,

Suppose that could lead to a Billy D situation.

Isn't there talk West Brom are interested although James Morrison will be in pole position to get it full time if he keeps them up.

He'd also be a good fit for Bristol City. And Leicester considering they've gone cap in hand to Rowett to keep them up and he's on his way down as championship manager now.

For me the problem is it has all gone very negative since the start of January. Not just the results and performances but how pessimistic PH has been in interviews compared to August and even last season.

So either he just wants out now and/or something has gone badly wrong with him and the ownership so it dosen't really strike me as a successful partnership for next season.

I think it’s more likely his next job will be in League One. Probably Sheffield Wednesday, Huddersfield or back to Barnsley.

I'd be surprised. I think letting slip of the budget was a bit of coded message to other owners on what he's working with here and what he could do if he had a budget like at Sheffield United in season 22/23.

In any case if PH stays on then the downbeat interviews pre and post match have to stop otherwise next season will get very difficult very quickly especially with the fanbase.

Neil got another championship job after his disaster year at Stoke so PH might have to wait a few months but plenty would still take him.

I actually think these next 2 games seriously could make or break Hecky. Anything less than 4 points, and quite possibly a poor performance on Gentry Day alone may matter a lot in fans opinions.

I'm genuinely indifferent to him going. I think we will struggle to attract his pedigree but I don't particularly like him or his style.

Hate the endless rotation. Hate the tiffs with players too. Small showed against Leicester he should be starting every game now to prep him for next season. I would actually play him 90 mins to build up his conditioning now with nothing to play for.

Like I say, would have no emotional reaction to him going or staying. He isn't the main problem but at the same time he ain't that good.

For me Alex Neil’s attitude in his last season with us is very similar to PH’s since January. I wonder why, could it be down to our penny pinching owners who had/have done AN and PH up like kippers?
Alex Neil saw his three best players sold for about 1m combined, and their replacements were a useless journeyman on loan, a midfielder on loan he didn’t really want, and nobody. He was then allowed to bring in two first time loans and two more journeymen on frees for his survival bid.

Heckingbottom was allowed to sell two players he didn’t use and then reinvest every penny into two players he’d been chasing since the summer.

The two are not comparable

8pts from the final games should be the bare minimum really, putting us on 61pts, which is a decent season, everything considered. But I'm more bothered about us trying to evolve our play and having more control in games

A midfield of Whiteman, Devine, and Moran, with Dobbin & Osmajic in front is more than enough to play on the front foot and dominate periods of the game against the likes of QPR and Charlton.

No pressure now, drop the safety first approach. Drop fucking Lindsay while you're at it.

Absolutely this. Look at the final squads Neil was shovelling together. Fucking woeful. I remember clearly Maguire being out for months and slotting straight back in at wing for an away night somewhere, might have been Swansea.

I remember thinking 'this is now a league 1 squad. We are complete shite'.

I don't excuse how obviously he threw in the towel (I'm sure he had some massive personal stuff going on at the time) but you're totally right. He would have loved a Moran, an Osmajic, a Small, an Andy Vuk...this squad is miles, miles better

I'm not buying that. The Lang signing was fucking stupid and that's not hindsight, I said it at the time. That, by all accounts, in on Heck.

George Hodgson made the point that nobody at this level when budgets are tight operates like this. Nobody has a manager just scouting out lads he knows and pushing for them. Sure if you are Pep and you have an instinct for a player, why not but for us to spunk that money when a manager's position is not secure (by normal clubs standards).

He's complicit in our failings. Neil got Ched Evans at the similar time for absolutely nothing. A signing that came through the scouting recommendation of Joe Savage and turned out a very good punt for what was paid out in the end.
