I am Disgusted with the Nerve of the club!

I am Disgusted with the Nerve of the club!

what brings in more revenue, 12,000 tickets at £250 or 6,000 at £350? 🙄

And which figure would spend more in the clubshop etc.?

Hypothetical I know, but the point is people are not renewing their tickets.

They aren't renewing, but likewise we can't predict how many would have done with a price increase. Sadly the only way we can find out is if they did reduce the price (but that is then offset with the risk(here we go again) that it doesn't translate into the sales we expected)

Crude analysis of what the rest of the division has done
11 nothing announced
9 price freezes(10 including us)
2 reduced prices
1 not saying and I can't find last seasons(plus they may well go down)

Notable offers -
buying 2 seasons for same price(our fans don't like coughing up for 1)
Ipswich 50% rebate if they get promoted
Derby - mobile phone sponsor subsidises a free ST. Maybe Enterprise could do the same if you order £x worth of pipeworks from them
Palace - 10% rebate for referal of new ST or lapsed ST

The Ipswich and Palace ones stand out. The Ipswich one is a token gesture really , a feel good factor. The Palace one again has a double element to it, the fan gets the discount they wanted, the club gets an extra sale.

Reading - nothing announced
Wolves - "Wolves offer Early Bird for eigth consecutive season" prices frozen for 4 years - cheapest adult £456
Birmingham - early discount offer 10%. Price freeze and 0% purchase option "instead of a 2.5% reduction due to VAT as this would benefit the fans more" - cheapest adult £292(family)£354
Cardiff - price freeze, option to buy 2 year ticket for 2x price, new stadium, cheapest adult £329
Burnley - nothing announced
Sheff Utd - reduced prices c. 7% - cheapest adult £280
Swansea - nothing announced
QPR - price freeze, early bird offer - cheapest adult £450
Bristol City - 5% reduction, early bird offer, cheapest adult ticket £355
Ipswich - price freeze, if you buy early and Ipswich get promoted to the Prem this season you get 50% back, option to renew for 2 years with same offer) cheapest £368(family) £453
Sheff Wed - nothing announced
Coventry - nothing announced
Doncaster - nothing announced
Palace - offered reduced prices in November, frozen prices until Feb. Refer a friend or lapsed ST holder for 10% off next seasons ticket. Cheapest £315(family Nov)£385(Nov)
Derby - early bird prices frozen (they are sponsored by a mobile phone dealer and offered a free cheapest ST if you bought a mobile)
Plymouth - early bird and price freeze - cheapest adult £275(unreserved) £399 elsewhere
Forest - nothing announced
Watford - nothing announced
Barnsley - nothing announced
Blackpool - nothing announced
Southampton - early bird - cheapest adult £450
Norwich - price freeze, early bird, discounts more for renewals than new ST - cheapest adult £366(if promoted £479 unless you ahd renewed) . If they make the playoff final an early bird deadline will be extended......, if relegated 15% back
Charlton - nothing announced

We've been here many times before, I'm just pointing out that it is ridiculous of the poster dismissing price cuts out of hand. 😎

was their answer to this to increase prices or even freeze prices? no it was to reduce prices accross the board.

what makes PNE so different
to any other service industry that they dont have to reduce prices?

T.

In direct answer to your question:

Price elasticity of demand
.

If the increase in sales is proportionately greater than the reduction in price, turnover/profit increases.

Retail, both essentials and furniture are likely to be price elastic.

Football is relatively price inelastic: the increase in gates does not compensate for the reduction in price = reduced turnover.

Plus in furniture retailing, each purchase is a one-off - there is no exiting band of customers who buy a new suite every year and to whom the discount also applies.

For season ticket sales, reduce the price to attract new punters and you have to give the same discount to all 8000 regular ST buyers also.

but you arent taking into account the people who have bought STs regularly in the past who are now saying they are priced out of an ST becuase of the current economic situation. If that figure of 8000 regulars gets reduced to 7000, how does that bode for us, not only now, but in 5 or 10 years time.

Again it seems we are stuck between doing nothing and hoping for the best or going out being pro active and gambling on improvement and again the club are doing nothing and hoping for the best.

We have a range of succesful businessmen involved in the club, we pay what I imagine is a decent wage to a marketing manager and a general manager and the best we can come up with is a scheme thats been in place for 5 or 6 years at a time when we really do need some "outside the box" thinking to attract people to Deepdale.

Can't dispute it but my earlier post shows that it seems to be a common theme in football to screw the punter and have a lack of imagination. The others all offer nigh on the same as us bar a couple of "out of the box" ideas.

some of those clubs (im thinking wolves, birmingham, sheff utd) already have bigger fan bases. We cant afford to lose more fans and reduce the attendance putting us further behind these clubs.

I just wish we could set the bar for once and really excite people.

Agreed !

What about you doing a Who style guitar smashing gig at half time ?

(At last I have achieved my ambition and rendered Shaky, Jake, White Womble, Jaymo.. speechless)

ill never be speechless 😀

I would definately do that, to be honest, next season should be centre stage "air guitar" edition. That would definately get the punters in.

Thats absolutely shameless treatment of 11, 19 and 24 year olds though. I suggest we approach the Football League and have them expelled from league for their bigotry against those particular ages.

At this point I feel its only fair to tell everyone you are the disgraced former CEO of RBS.. in disguise !

I've unignored you to let you know that due to an unexpected decrease in pension I'm cancelling that 40m2 Axminster order. Send the gripper rods mind, sure I'll find a use for them.

What really got my gander up is that existing seasonticketholders, despite their loyalty for many years are being asked to cough up twice in one year.

The price freeze is very welcome, but once again the club are relying on the same folk who they admit are keeping things going, apart from TH! Anyhow, it's not as if we can sign anyone is it, so why are they doing it?

It would make more sense to offer the very same frozen prices to the new customers only, and reward the loyalty of the existing seasonticketholders by asking them to cough up again in June.

My own gut feeling is that when we finally do miss out the club will have to cave in and offer the deals again.

I will not renew in March. If the club do not do something then I won't renew at all, whch frightens me, because I think once I take the drastic step I'll hardly go to any games at all. I have been slated on this thred, but I have a feeling that I am not on my own. Another fan even put a post in the LEP the other night, so I am deffo not alone!!!!

Don't you realise that if PNE ever do make the "promised land" of the Premiership they'll double or triple the season ticket prices and all us "loyal" season ticket holders who've kept them afloat for years will be insignificant others!

That's the modern game after all!

Don't worry! Two years later season tickets will be peanuts!
