Is Lowe evolving?

Is Lowe evolving?

He's saying we should sign players to develop and improve our squad long term, rather than keep using those resources on temporary sticking plasters to tread water.
I always like to think of the Beckford loan as a good example of how to use the loan market. We probably had enough quality in our squad to get promotion. Beckford was like a last little extra push to guarantee it. Plus we already had plenty of players we owned and were developing

And that we should've been doing that the last few years, instead of what we have been doing.
You’re talking about the past like it’s the present where we are signing those younger players??

Why are you not positive about things rather than your general theme of negativity. Everyone knows we are a couple light but we’ve made some decent signings and if we add a couple more decent loans to it and we’ll have had a very good window

Like Mads and Stewart ?
Yeah, like them. Not like Jamie Thomas and Izzy Brown and Connor Wickham and Josh Onomah.

We've needed signings like them for the last few years, and plenty of them, to develop and be ready to replace the squad quality we knew we were always going to lose when key players outgrew our wage structure and left.

Spot on with the 2 signings and it shows a potential different strategy, almost all teams who get promoted will have loanees in their side who make an impact. Sheff Utd and Burnley certainly did last season.

We're now reliant on them to add squad quality, rather than having the squad quality to begin with, and just sprinkling some extra loans on top for depth.

And for every Cannon, there's a Parrott.
We are doing the same as the majority of other teams. Are there any championship teams who have not signed loan players?

Yesterday was my 1st game since Birmingham away, I didn't really see that much different. I thought it was a poor game yesterday that had little offensive quality. Sheffield Wednesday were one of the worst sides I've seen in a number of years at this level.

We've had a great start points wise though, but I'm far from getting carried away right now. The teams we've played against are currently in 14th, 15th and 24th. On this seasons form we've had a good run of games to start with, and 18th placed Swansea to come at home.

If we're in a similar position at the October international break, then I might have some more faith that we are improving

I feel like we're a bit more flexible this season going forwards, mostly because of the change in personnel. Keane and Mads look like a missing link. We also seem better at set pieces (Kian Best has an absolute wand of a foot). To be fair, we've looked fairly solid so far. Long may it continue.

One point of credit is how Browne is being utilised.

We're scoring goals this year, thats a start!

Not sure there too much changed tactically but Lowe (e.g. after the match on Saturday) has become somewhat less idealistic in his approach. Attack with 6, defend with 4 isn't going to work in a league like this with the quality of player we have access to.

I think Lowe has changed quite a bit since he first came in, for the better in terms of managing Preston North End at this level.

I think some fans will just never take to him for whatever reason, but those reasons are quite often fairly pathetic little niggling dislikes like his bloody accent, his white trainers or his fist pumps. None of which are in any way important.

I think when he came in, he was a little naiive with his insistence on the 'brand' and playing fast, attacking football. He'd had good success doing so in the lower leagues and I think he just thought he could come in and do the same here but at a higher level. I don't know if anyone else remembers but in one of his first interviews he was visibly excited about the quality of players we had in the squad & what he could achieve with them. You can't blame him for that but he was maybe a little bit guilty of looking too much at what we had and not what the other sides at this level had, we never going to play the style of football he was claiming we would and I think that just got on peoples nerves a bit.

As time has gone on, he seems to have realised we need to be a bit more clever in how we approach games. Ledson made some comment in his interview before the weekend about going a bit more direct.

He's also been great for the young lads coming through, something I don't think he is getting enough credit for really. Early days in the season but the signs are good.

Regardless of the result against Swansea, it's been a good start. September though we'll really start to see what this squad is made of - couple of matches with some added spice against Stoke & Plymouth to start off the month, & then I would the say the 3 after that (Birmingham, Rotherham & West Brom) we need to be looking at 7 points minimum if we're wanting to be in & around the play-offs this season, especially as October looks to then be a tricky month.

That said though, it's still obviously very early & the form of some teams will drop / rise before we play them, just hope we get most of them at the right time.

That's because all Ledson knows is the long ball.

Very difficult to tell at the moment as he has very little choice in team selection. In fact ( in a warped sort of way ) his lack of support from the owners might be doing him a favour. If he is ever fully backed ( unlikely ) then that's the time to judge in my view. With what he's got to play with at the moment he's doing fine........ Although I have to say that Sunderland did extremely well not to get 4 against us. ( Joke) 😀
