Sooooo the reasons for not previously being able to hold concerts to create additional revenue was....?
Because it was too much work.

Much easier to blame the stadium, shrug your shoulders when asked about extra revenue streams and then fuck off on your holidays after your jolly boys’ outing at the Play Offs.

You didn’t expect Saint Peter to actually be proactive and inventive with his job, did you?

I'm no expert, but I presume the licence costs money.

Plus all the added work for infrastructure, policing, security, health and safety. The initial setup to get to the point of hosting events probably costs considerable money, something which previous owners were not interested in doing.

Previous owners you say. Are you ITK?

Yet Gloomfield with an inferior stadium and equally tight, if not worse, owners regularly have gigs there in the summer months.

Elton John.
Neil Diamond.
etc.

Could see us attracting the likes of Stereophonics as far as stadium gigs go, similar to both Bolton and Huddersfield in stadium size.

Yeah it's frustrating to see what could have been, if the owners had shown some foresight.

I don't expect Taylor Swift to be rocking up to Deepdale anytime soon, but like you said, mid-tier and up bands like Kasabian.

You’re probably looking at seating capacity of 5,500 at one end and 3/4 of the sides so another 7500 or so there + the floor of a few thousand. Plenty of bands at about the Manchester arenas sort of level that would be potential I’m sure.

I was having a discussion about Mad Ferret/Guild Hall on Preston Blog.

Someone chimed in with some limited knowledge on the subject.

They said it wouldn't be straightforward to get bands to deviate from the regular touring cities due to Preston's proximity to Manchester/Liverpool and the already established touring schedule.

It would take some work and I think if the club work in conjunction with the city, and make it beneficial to bands to come here, then it could happen.

Often, tours are planned months/year in advance, so hopefully we have someone within the new ownership group with the finger on the pulse and some contacts within the music business who can fast track us some events.

My brother went to see Rod Stewart there a few years ago…..

This was my thought too.

Whilst the capacity will be of a decent enough size to host those that play in the Manchester and Liverpool arenas, it's another thing actually getting them to play in Preston, when it's so close to the usual locations of Manchester and Liverpool which are much more known, bigger areas and safer options.

The main selling point would need to be Preston is quite the travel hub for public transport. But I imagine it'd have to be a slow burner as would need to get a couple of good success stories before others that are bigger acts who play those size areans decide to take the plunge.

The reason the top of the Invincibles was never completed is because Elton John and his piano is sat behind the flags/banners. He's been waiting for the license to be granted for donkeys years for the big reveal

One main obstacle is that the likes of Ticketmaster / Live Nation have the monopoly on something stupid like 80% of the major UK venues and as such, bands are forced to play to their tune or - I presume - end up blacklisted from playing.

It's these 2 twats that will cause problems.

Live Nation own 51% of all o2 Academy venues

Live Nation also own 25% of all Festivals with a capacity of 5k+.

It was sickening to see the Radio 2 in the park concert be played/hosted over the road on Moor Park - which apparently was worth £5.3 million to the Preston economy, I also get that the numbers it pulled in were greater than what we can host in Deepdale but we've got a bloody good light show to make up for it 😆
