Match Day - Coventry City v Preston North End (Sunday 25/08/13)

A definite point gained today as we could have had no complaints had Coventry beaten us 4-0 as they ripped us apart on the break. We were dire for 90% of the game and i've no idea where we pulled 4 goals from.

Disappointed but we'll move on, only 4 games in.

We all accept that today's performance wasn't good enough, but from my point of view is at least both the manager & the players have come out & said in their interviews that we weren't good enough & should of lost today so there's a lot of work to be done on the training ground to rectify it cos is nowhere near acceptable . What I'm trying to point out is that at least the players & manger agree with us fans & admitted in public that we were bad today & that its not acceptable, compare to other managers & players who wouldn't admit the truth & blame others instead.

We are extremely lucky to come away with a point, deserved nothing. Thankfully that spunk trumpet Leon Clarke missed an absolute sitter when he hit the bar as that would have killed us off.

Coventry fans must have left wondering why they needed a late goal just to draw level. Two points dropped for them.

Mistake No 1.. never change a winning side. Grayson had a winning side at the end of last season and decided to change it wiithout giving the side that did well last season a chance.

Not being funny, but when you're in the lead three times away from home I don't really think that this is the case.

The lower you go down the divisions, the more of a level playing field it is - therefore home advantage (yes, I know it was at Northampton but it still isn't neutral) is a greater factor.

The psychological edge of being away from home, for whatever reason, generally means that you enjoy less possession and have to fight harder for a win.

Preston still need to be a lot more robust though.

SG has said in his Radio Lancs post match interview that he will be making more team changes for Tuesdays game now after today's performance, where he put 3 subs on because certain players weren't good enough but he also wished he could of made another 6 or 7 other sub changes aswell as he wasn't happy with the teams performance.

I saw very little fight in that team today. Coventry picked up every second ball except for a brief spell after our second. There was nothing good to say about our defence as a team today. Constantly let people go by without tracking runs and little closing down. The ease in which they picked us apart was ridiculous, there were multiple times we had the ball around their area only to be forced all the way back to Rudd. No movement for the man on the ball and they had too much pace up front which we struggled to cope with. Huntington was run ragged today.

We might have been in the lead but it was undeserved and they way we crumbled whenever they came at us it was easy to see what was coming. I was just glad to hear the whistle in the end.

I don't know the average age of their squad but I think it is pretty young, you could argue that playing away from the Ricoh in front of a smaller crowd is bringing more confident and fearless performances out of them. Going 4-3 down after being 3-2 up would have had the fans going bat shit and could have a much greater impact on them.

Either way it was a disappointing game for us and hopefully we can get past it sharpish and focus on the cup. I hope to god Beavon/Hume start after those subs though...

I saw very little fight in that team today....

I wasn't at the game so I may be wrong but I would have thought that there was quite a bit of fight because a) Coventry have done well given that they started on minus 10 points and are already down to minus 3 points, b) we were the away team, c) we scored 4 goals, d) we went down 3-2 after leading twice with only 7 minutes to go plus stopage time, and e) over the last few seasons had we gone down 3-2, after leading twice, in the 83rd minute how many times would we have either just given in or fought for an equaliser?

I wasn't aware of what was happening and only heard the score shortly before 6.00pm. I'm not sure of what to say - after starting the season well-organised but uncreative we suddenly become disorganised but score more goals in one match than we had in four games previously. But this is Preston North End and SG's emphasis on discipline is up against the inherent tendency of men with Lamb & Flag crests on their left breast to defy all logic. The team was the one I would have chosen and I am disappointed that the first player to be substituted was Hayhurst - but why was the lad omitted last week. I wonder if we will be in the market shortly for an experienced, dominant centre half - sounds like we needed a player like that today. We probably also need a central midfielder with some real class. But Welsh, Mousinho, Wroe and maybe even Monakana, as well as Beardsley and Candsdell-Sheriff may be starting to look superfluous to requirements in SG's eyes. We should also remember that three players of real class - Laird, Beavon and Hume - have barely figured yet this season.

Grayson says it was a very poor performance, so it has to be a positive, to fight back from 3-2 down with only 7 minutes to go, to take the lead..........just a pity they threw away that good fight back, by allowing Coventry to equalise with practically the last kick of the game.

How long before one of Graysons criitics refers to this as a 'losing draw' ?
