Match Day Thread - Bolton v PNE (Gentry Day) 03/03/18 - KO:15:00 - Cp

Well excuse me for pointing out---I have said for some time McGuire is much better in a central role than playing on the Left, were he looks lost---And Robinson is much better on the Left than in a central position ---So perhaps an ‘Old Un’ does actually know a bit about the game despite what you ‘Young Un’s’ think---Expect the games on Tuesday and Saturday to be a totally different one's---Both of them will run at our back four with some speed, so let’s hope Fisher is back and Huntington can manage Mitrovic, he has a pretty good record against us ---Well Done to all today though

To be fair, McGuire never played centrally (apart from the odd game) as we had Hugill - and then when McGuire got injured and Hugil left we played Robinson up front until both Moult and McGuire got fit. I doubt McGuire will start on Tuesday again as we don't want to rush him back to playing 70/80 minutes of football just yet, but when he is fully fit I am sure he will be our main starting forward.

Thing of beauty

Is that Surf?

The thing I feel we need to drastically change at home is the way the crowd reacts and gets behind the players especially when you compare the home "support" compared to the away support you couldn't have two differing types of atmospheres and I feel it translates down onto the pitch and helps or hinders the players respectively.

Every misplaced pass or missed shot at home is met with moans, groans and abuse whilst away the fans simply carry on singing or clap to try and get behind the players.

I feel if we had home support like say Palace's we would see a difference in the way the players play and the confidence they have.

Very very well said !

I do think that tactical/quality issues with breaking teams down are the main reason for our home problems, but actually do genuinely agree that the general atmosphere of home games needs to change a bit.

Anyone seen to be not throwing themselves about like a Welsh is given pelters at times. As a result, the stick the likes of Robinson and Johnson get at times, when it’s not actually their game and all they’re trying to do is get the team moving forwards, is so disproportionate compared to their ability and contributions it’s a joke.

Thought we’d win yesterday. Been class away from home and we’re better man for man and in the technical area than Bolton, we just have to sort it out at home.

Maguire needs to be our main central striker now.

Bristol are smashing Sheffield Wednesday we're losing at BOLTON.

THIS is the point

Kiss it good bye nobbers.

I think it’s probably best if you don’t get too over excited, and a bit of patience would be advisable.

We were infinitely superior yesterday, except for our inability to put the ball in the net, something we suffered from even when Hugill was here.

Our pattern of play is so much better without him, and now that we have started scoring the pressure may be off other players and the goals may come.

The players were so buzzed up after that game yesterday.

And Gally made a huge difference, he was the missing factor against Ipswich I think.

Every game is a cup final, as a fan that’s great to see. But it’s going to be a bumpy ride, so many clubs still in the mix, but that also means other clubs dropping points.

I’m still buzzing after my day out in Horwich. The second half we were in a different class, and that’s against a very very much improved Bolton team.

Chill a bit Yank.

Oh dear me. You do realise you then take every emotion out of the game all you are left with is sterility and then you will moan about that too.

It’s not often I agree with you but on this occasion I absolutely do.

Where have I asked for every emotion to be taken out of the game Joan?

You don’t want reaction to anything. What you perceive to be “moans and groans” are emotive if they weren’t people would just sit there in silence. As for abuse, I don’t like that to anyone at anytime but, I can’t say I’ve heard it as much as others claim though, there are enough saying it so, it must be there.

Never said that I just don't want people to moan and groan when the players don't perform everything perfectly, people can retrain themselves to have restraint when something goes wrong.

I don't want the stadium to be sat motionless and in silence I didn't mean that at all.

Positivity not negativity.

Dont often agree with Ron, spot on this time though. We need to be the extra man, we are having a very good season, o.k the home form hasnt been the best, i feel at times the players are taking the easy option at home because they dont want the crowd on their backs. There is a difference between happy clappy and giving them a chance and backing that drives them on not grumblings that stifles their confidence.

From a sports psychology point of view , silence would be preferential to moaning or abuse.

Better still , praise the effort and just give unwavering support.
