I think he has the belief that all players with potential are bound to fulfil it, like of course after 3 years every player will be worth a tidy profit! And he hasn't cottoned onto the fact that young players go for inflated fees because of their potential compared to their actual ability. So when they don't make it, you can still lose significant amounts.
On that one you are wrong. Deeney could have been signed for 250,000 and later sold for 20 million. Tarkowski could have been signed for 500,000 and sold for 25 million. Austin could have been signed for 50,000 and sold for 12 million. These are FACTS not fiction. There are many other players who could be mentioned. But just those three mentioned would have given Hemmi us back half of his investment. Whether you like it or not Woods has the ability to spot talent as evidenced by him going ballistic about Dolan being given free to Blackburn with no sell on clause. That is rank incompetence.

What am I wrong about? Did you even read what I said? Of course there are plenty of players who go on to sell for larger fees. I agree and advocate for that!

My point is that it is not the case that ALL young players have the ability to do that, and the waffling about the likes of Simpson, Ginnelly and Harrop who will never make it at this level, let alone to the premiership, suggests that 'he' believes all players can reach the peak of their potential. And it just isn't the case. Some players peak young. Some players don't have the work ethic or the mentality. Some just get injured a lot.

It requires the right players, the right coaching, the right luck and the right environment and mentorship around them.

Turned it off after 2 mins, not an easy listen. The host comes across as a bit of a knobhead. 🤷‍♂️

That's your opinion Kop and you are en titled to it. Now could you clearly explain why he is a "knobhead?" But first you need to define "knobhead?"

You just don't get it do you. Over the years there have been lots of youth players identified as not being able to make it. That means not every player has the ability.

However serious questions have to be asked about the raw talent of Storey, Earl, Harrop, Bayliss, Walker, O'Reilly, Riis, Simpson, Ginnelly having gone into decline. One or two may do but for all of them to have done so raises serious questions about man management and development.

Riis now is obviously on his way back but are you telling us woods was wrong about Dolan who is now, already being monitored by two Premier League clubs! Would you like to rain to us how thisbhuve mistake was made?

When Simpson first arri ed he scored a hat track v Blackpool youths by playing his natural game of facing the opposing goalkeeper. Then the North End coaches got their handz on him and he was never seen again. Don't forget Celtic, West Ham and Liverpool were also interested in him.

You can repeat yourself... Sorry, Woods... All you like. All you're showing is a distinct lack of comprehension.

I didn't say he was wrong about Dolan, I'd have given him a deal? Can't blame him for wanting to leave though, our youth development has been shocking. I hope the lad makes it, personally, though its a little funnier to see Blackburn struggle so much, despite him being on their team sheet.

Simpson? Yeah, he was fucking massive compared to the teenagers he was playing against, no wonder he scored a bunch of headers at youth level. However for someone with such 'potential' isn't it odd not a single football league club wanted him for free? Coaching can be done, but maybe he just wasn't very good.

Worth a punt though, to see if there was anything there, same with Ginnelly. Just have to learn to accept that sometimes they don't make it as well as you'd hoped they would.

I dont see yours is any semblance of a plan.

Step 1 - Wait for player to become good
Step 2 - Say we should have signed them when they were 9

Essentially your entire approach
Tell me what is it you don't understand about

1.identify young emerging talent preferably aged 18 to 21.
2.sign
3.develop.
4 sell
5.re-invest by repeating cycle.

This is essentially the model Brentford used. The plan, in effect, was proposed to North End over 20 years ago. Brentford did it and won promotion to the Premiership. Preston didn't and are now in decline.

Is it rocket science? Absolutely not. It is basic common sense a commodity that has been absent in the strategic management of North End far too long.

In that case tell us how you know Ginnelly and Simpson wouldn't have made it? They were never given the chance but meanwhile the manager persevered with under performing players.

To quote Ginnelly on Alex Neil
"He told me no.matter how well I played I wouldn't be selected for the first team," you, therefore tell me what that would have done to Ginnelly's mindset?

You are the type of fan who all those years ago would have been arguing the youngsters like Tony Morley, Mel Holden, Mick Baxter, Steve Doyle, Mark Lawrenson, Graham Houston and many others didn't have it in them. I had seen them in the reserves and knew they had it.

Yes Woods is back! Spouting utter bollocks, the master of hindsight and talking about himself in the 3rd person while pretending to be someone else. For sheer entertainment value, you’ve been missed Voldemort 🤣
Keasden tell me what the "utter bollox" being spoken is? Would that be the "Trader Concept" which has just delivered Brentford to the Premiership?
