Great away trip for me as a kid, made even more special when my dad stopped at the services on the way back and we were introduced to the full North End team and management.Happiest away trip in over 5o years 6 of us went Friday night on last train and watched as we took the trophy of them happy days 😀 😊 😄
Woman to the left is saying to the fella “why do we always just lump it into the corners”. Probably!!Not sure of context on this oneView attachment 37480
A different era. In fact a totally different world.
This is so cool. I’m not sure how many fellas have won the World Cup. But really, can you imagine anyone who’s won it in, say, the last 30 years doing this!!?? Yep, you said it right. A different world. And not necessarily worse. Love this.

Sad thing is that I still recognise the models of cars....seems like last week.... legend's in the background.....I was trying to read the reg plates to get an understanding of what year it might be…..
Unfortunately, the photo is a bit blurry.
Few left there from a night in Legend’s the night before I reckon!!Sad thing is that I still recognise the models of cars....seems like last week.... legend's in the background.....

I remember that Huddersfield game. I was there with my best mate Roger. At one point Peter Withe, once of Villa, missed a sitter and a cry went up 'Withe! Retire!' Which was quite harmless, innocent and included no swearing whatsoever but was just the funniest, plaintive heckle ever. As besties, Roger and I obviously doubled over, cackling. Some old pictures from an LEP post I saw to lighten the mood.
Where were you while we were getting
high?

I remember going to Tranmere one night when Frank Worthington RIP was player/manager for them.
We were alongside their tunnel and as he came out we were giving him both barrels: 'You're too old, Frank! Retire! Pack it in!' etc.
He just laughed, shook his head and replied: 'You're never too old, lads.'
Not long after that, they fired him and a week later he signed for . . . Preston North End.
At the age of 38.
Turns out, he wasn't too old after all. 😊

He was with North End for 7 years but only played in 50 League Games….Did Bert Patrick play many games? I remember everyone else, but him. I'm sure Ernest can help me out.
He played understudy to George Ross for most of that time.

I love that. The simple, most innocent heckles are the best. That Worthington one was and IS pure North End.I remember going to Tranmere one night when Frank Worthington RIP was player/manager for them.

Another fave of mine was when Sven was manager of Derby County. We played them at home and a wag in the Invincibles yelled 'Sven! Sven! Get your bloody hair cut!' which, again, was utterly clean and polite in football fan parlance, but was the funniest heckle I'd ever heard and the crowd responded in laughter.
Ones aimed at Nigel Clough ( for being small) were similarly hilarious. 'Clough, Clough! How far away are you??!!' Cloughie took it in good heart til 5 mins from the end when he turned and gave the fan a double barrel mouthful.
I still laugh today.
He will be 87 in December 👍🏻👍🏻I presume that’s Arthur Cox, latterly a bit of a Ledge up in the North East?

For some reason I have a memory of training for Fulwood Amatuers at Cuthbert Mayne gym by Alan Kelly and for some reason those classic shirts made an appearance.
