Matchday Thread PNE v Hull City - 02/03/24 - KO:3PM - Championship

I thought PNE were the better team but Hull had the two best players on the field in no 4 Jacob Greaves and no 2 Lewis Coyle. Browne was superb at right wingback and gives us so much more than Potts imo. He can head, tackle, pass and cross besides coming inside. He looks forward instead of turning back to Storey.
Hull’s much fancied front 3 of Philogene, Carvalho and Zaroury never had a look in, or their replacements Billy Sharp and Tufan, so well did our defence play. Woodman in goal was back to his best and frequently left his line as he anticipated play. Ali McCann had his best game in a North End shirt winning tackles all over the pitch and setting up attacks. Three chances fell to Ben Whiteman who wasn’t at his best but has been outstanding in the last month so it would be unfair to criticise. Riis could make nothing of the impressive Greaves , but partner Keane did link up play well and looks a class act. Mads had a great first half and really put a shift in and I thought he looked tired before being subbed. Millar is just unpredictable and electric in all he does and nearly replicated his stunning winning goal against Leeds. Overall a great point and reinforces the optimism there is around the club. We’re still fighting for a playoff spot, we’re not going away.
a Fair assessment 👍

Good assessment Dick,I was also impressed with Coyle certainly had the better of Millar on numerous challenges.
Good performance with good shape keeping and discipline.
Result not disappointing and we are still in the pack.
Hopefully nick a point at Southampton and get them out of the way.

Whilst agreeing with most posts that ali McCann had his best game for PNE today and should definitely got the MOM award, I believe Alan Browne had a fantastic game as RWB too and was excellent throughout the match. His control and movement were top drawer and he was equally involved in everything positive from a midfield perspective and showed he is a true captain and leader.
Excellent team performance today and Hull were somewhat lucky to avoid defeat with some of their antics at the back, despite being a threat going forward. Decent point in the end though.

Well played PNE (and Hull). Entertaining and worth the draw. Neither team deserved to lose. Hope they can continue with the pressing game on Tuesday and come away with the three points

Greaves is genuinely the best CB I’ve seen at this level for a long time.

I thought Struijk was good when Leeds came here but Greaves eclipsed that. Immense.

Just catching up and this league is batshit crazy.

I couldn’t tell you who would go down (other than Rotherham) but just look at Boro! Arguably the best team in the league from January to May last year and are now just 6 points off the drop zone. Crazy!

Good point against a good side. Think we edged it but a draw was a fair result. Thought Greaves and the number 2 for Hull were both very good. Can go into the Saints game with confidence. Fair play Lowe does seem to have turned it around
Got to give credit to RL for that after half time in Bristol game it's a nice feeling going onto games again. If only he did it every week months ago we might be in top 6 by now. Overall still happy with way we are and creating chances and playing some decent stuff.

Very good assessment, that.

Haha not sure, but is from Poland and is exceptional. They don't produce a lot though and as seen in the link below, not the cheapest! But well worth it.

They make pocheen out of spuds don’t they? Is pocheen just vodka with a different name?

He has been superb for a fair while and seems to be getting better. He still should have been sent off though!

Class game today, Browne was just superb in everything he did today, well done sir, a decent game of footy with both teams trying for the 3 points, I thought Riis was well off the pace today and would have subbed him rather than Keane
I must admit apart from one poor touch in the first half Keane was the pick of the two today.
The thing is with Riis is that you’re never sure when he’ll show a flash of brilliance and those players are very rare at our club.

Spoke to a couple of Hull Fans walking through Moor Park after the game - both thought they’d got away with a point and definitely thought we should have had a pen !!
