A decent battle between two above average, but unspectacular, Championship teams. A lack of finesse from the forwards, plus proficient goalkeeping and last ditch defending, and a referee who saw absolutely no foul play whatsoever, once the play was inside the penalty area, led to a stalemate that both managers would have taken at the start.
Tactically, Lowe paid due respect to the decent Humberside opposition, and sent Alan Browne out to support Jordan Storey against Hull's danger man on the left wing. Storey had his hands full and just about stayed in the contest, with Browne assisting.
I would have taken off Whiteman, not Frokjaer, when a goal was needed, but that might be construed as nitpicking, to suggest that taking a major goal creator off the pitch at nil-nil is a negative move. However, if North End misses out of the play offs by 2 points or by inferior goal difference, it may be down to a cumulative effect of season long substitutions like that, amongst other things.
