Matchday Thread PNE v Ipswich - 03/02/24 - KO:3PM - Championship

I assume it's the 'General Admission' concourse of the STFS.

(Pic lifted from the LEP 😉)
Don't think it is, we are F bang on the half way line and as close to Hospitality as you can be (which is E), without paying twice as much.
If he is in Hospitality he must (presumably) have been 'invited'.

if that was the case, then why didn't he tell them to carry on doing it in the second half if it was a tactic that he had had the foresight to see, and not just per appenchance and that's the way it just happened?
Did you not notice that the GK hardly did the short stuff in the second half presumably after a half time bollocking

In reality he did nothing for us.
And we failed to back him when we were in touching distance of the PL
There are many different opinions of Billy, he is indeed a controversial character, and of course everyone is entitled to their opinion. As far as I'm concerned he was a great motivator, a great organiser and he certainly knew how to put a winning Championship football team together. His success at Derby and Forest is evidence of that. Has he still got it? Who knows? I doubt he would get another chance here anyway, but I wouldn't be against it personally, maybe a short term fixed contract or rolling month initially. It would no doubt be more entertaining than the dross we've suffered for the last 2 years.

Ok you might have a point but then, what you are saying is that they changed the way that they where playing to counter act what we did to them in the first half, but we weren't tactically aware enough to respond accordingly.

Positives today- battling performance. Disciplined and focused first half and fought as hard as they could second half.
Really pleased with this win!
Negative- Why are interviewers not bringing it up with our manager that in a significant majority of games we are in almost constant defensive mode in the second half, unable to mount meaningful attacks or keep procession with our panicking players giving the ball away so cheaply. As a result the pressure on our defence is huge. What is being said to our players at half time and what, if anything, are we doing on the training pitch to reverse this trend?

Buzzing with that first half and result.

Got our rewards for pressing quick and aggressively. Great to see. I don't think it would have flattered us to go in at HT further in front. Really enjoyed that first half.

Keane and Riis look a well suited partnership with Mads quality and creativity behind. Millar always a threat and Browne very decent in that first half too. No complaints with starting 11, more of the same please Lowe.

Expected Ipswich to come out and make second half difficult, inevitable but glad we hung onto to win.

Worrying thing is im not sure he is.
I’m beginning to think the same .. the falling over is a little too easy . There were a couple of times where his speed got him to a point it was only him and one defender but he seemed to run out of ideas on how to get past him and as a consequence chose to fall over .. he needs some coaching to get the best out him. He also needs to get a run of games … but .. I can’t see it happening with Riss fit

I’m looking at the table, the only statistic that matters really, and can’t understand all the criticism of Lowe. Maybe it’s his verbal diarrehea style but we’re punching above our weight in terms of budget. What is a bit of a conundrum is that our other stats are overall pretty woeful. Is it that we are just more efficient at goal scoring and maybe by hitting on the counter we create much fewer but better quality chances ?

Thinking similar myself, so many contradictions, whichever angle you look at it from.
My and my son watched Ipswich at Wimbledon the weekend of the Chelsea game. They looked beatable to me. I was saying to my young un on the way to the game yesterday that we had a good chance of a win, with Riis back and 3 others-, Keane, Mads and Millar providing a threat, plus Browne also having someone to pass forwards to. Its exciting to see how those combinations will evolve.
People saying there's nothing to look forward to is just bloody miserable.
No doubt I'll get called a happy Clapper or some other bollicks- I don't really give a shit, I'm a Nobber, I support my team.

Billy was the best for me, properly fought our corner, no bullshit. But when was his last job? Genuine question, if it was Forest then I'd suggest he'll be a bit out of touch, a lot has changed since then.
Plus he'd last 2 minutes, max, with Risdale.

People on here seem to keep up with modern trends, give opinions on the modern game, waffle on about xg's and stuff.

They seem to know which managers make good or bad decisions, which formation to use.

Don't understand why anyone could think that Davies couldn't keep in touch with modern trends, he more than likely has contacts that will keep him more in touch with things than any of us.

He along with Moysie gave me some of the best times as a PNE supporter.

Having said all that, can understand why some would rather we went for someone else, but can't understand the hatred for the guy.

Some people appear to hate Lowe and Ridsdale but most would just like them removed because they just aren't very good.

So has Billy had s job since Forest?

Just checked he hasn't, it's a decade ago when he last managed. Not for me, that's just my opinion but then I dont make those decisions.
Bit of a digression but I wasn't for Billy getting the job and neither were most of the fans, same with Moyesie, how wrong most of us were. I'm careful since then not to fill in too many gaps when it comes to these issues.

He was a horrible little git who screwed it up for us against Leeds in the play offs because he had already agreed a lucrative deal with Derby…

He shouldn’t be allowed anywhere in Preston never mind back at PNE.

He did a job for us but greed got the better of him and he’s left a nasty stain wherever he’s been.
For greed, I read ambition. He was perceptive recognising that the clubs ambition didnt match his in terms of financing for promotion, and found a club that did.
