The best keeper in the division!

The best keeper in the division!

Right, Lets switch this round, If this was a ball going towards Bristol's goal. Would James of been rooted or would he hav collected the ball?????

We all know the answer.

So, he was supposed to have guessed that golden boy was going to fail to deal with a simple ball, then dash 30 yards before Keogh had covered 10 and clear up the mistake? You make some valid points but I think you're stretching credibility to the extreme to blame Lonergan for the first goal.

Give the lad a break I don't know how u can blame lonergan for everything when his the four clowns in front of him. People just seem to pick out the errors he's made

In a really bad setup, everyone tends to make mistakes and play badly. Totally pointless focussing on individuals. We've become rotten to the core starting with the owners.

Can't see how Lonners was to blame for any of the goals today.

It was the clowns in front of him that were the problem.

The absolute short sightedness of people to blame a goal keeper for every single goal conceded and defeat is honestly laughable.

Give me strength. Look at the build up for the second goal, a simple catch would have seen Bristol City lose their momentum and us regain posession. Instead what we saw was a weak, two fisted punch straight to the feet of a red shirt. Then been completely out of position Lonergan was "done" by a weak header.

Tuesday he kept us in it with some good goalkeeping, but could again have question marks about both goals. There is so many times in this season, last season, the season before where he can be questioned but there is no competition in the slightest. Arestidou isn't the answer and we need someone to actually compete with him.

As many good saves as he makes, it's always in games when we end up coming out of the game with absolutely fuck all in terms of points!

The way I see it? Collectively both Lonergan and the defence were to blame for today's goals. Simple.

Just absolutely abysmal - its like they just couldn't be arsed and let City just go on and score.

In general though, Lonergan is a hugely over-estimated 'keeper. In my opinion, he's absolutely woeful and that's putting it kindly!

Just read Cloughie the autobiography.
He goes into great detail how all good teams are built from the back and explains how he bent over backwards to get shilton when he went to forest, stilton was the one player he'd die in a ditch for.
Odd that brown didn't see what so many on here seem to ?

So you're blaming him for that, what about the other 3 goals then?

3rd & 4th is bad defending, truly awful defending at that!

The first I think with a bit of communicating would have been dealt with but SSL shouldnt have let it bounce in the first place. As I've said before, there is more to goalkeeping than a) making 1v1 saves and b) picking the ball out of the net.

So in your opinion, he was to blame for all four goals today?

See my post earlier in this thread.

Goal 1 - Not alert and was too hesitant in coming off his line. Had he reacted instantly then he would have collected easily.

Goal 2 - How the fuck a 10 year header with no pace managed to beat him I don't know.

Goal 3 - Blameless

Goal 4 - Blameless

Fair enough, just checking.

1st goal - SSL should have never let it bounce and even then, had 4 options to clear to (Left , Right, AKS, Lonners)

2nd goal - A soft header, where was the marking?

3rd goal - Didn't see the attack as i was typing on the phone to FB saying that our season was over, I looked up to see Lonners save point blank a shot and the rebound was tucked away.

4th goal - A breakaway, the attacker had 2 clear options running wide of him, picks one out, he goes 1 v 1 and GOAL!

Thats how i saw it.

MoM for us - Ellington.

Me too. I'm not saying Lonergan is perfect by any means but only those with a real agenda against him (and there are plenty on here) could lay the blame for today's defeat on his shoulders. Some of the comments he receives on here go well beyond normal, constructive criticism-it is personal, and there's no call for that at all (in fact as I recall, personal criticism used to be against forum rules).

blaming the goalie for that pathetic display of schoolboy defending is just plain lame, ok if you have some sort of hate thing with lonergan just say so, but to pin todays defeat on him is just not right.

David James showed what goal keeping was about today, caught crosses, released the ball quickly setting up counter attacks and made some outstanding saves.
Lonners is just not in the same league.

Couldn't have put it better myself

Sick to death of this recurring subject, surely surely there is something that can be done about it?

Maybe this subject recurs because a long succession of different professionals recognise that Lonergan's good points outweigh the negatives.... but too many north enders are pessimists and only see the negatives. Unfortunately, they also tend to be the most vocal.

No wonder Cardiff only offered 200k for the clown.

So you say the professionals at Cardiff, a club with realistic aspirations of the Premier League, put in a bid for him. Do you really think this confirms your opinion that he's shit?

What exactly did he do wrong today? First and second goals were both St Ledger's fault, though the second was probably a collective effort of the back four and 3 and 4 were just City gliding through our gash defence.

Have you not realised that every goal is Lonergan's fault?

Has anyone mentioned the totally inept Wayne Brown in all this? St Ledger was poor too, but it didn't help that the manager switched him to jeft back. Doesn't he know his players? St Ledger has performed reasonably at RIGHT back in the past, and Jones was doing ok at left back. Crucial and very basic mistake by Phil Brown in my opinion.

Good point well made Fibber.

Wayne Brown was foookin gash.

PB should have left Billy at left back and moved Ledge to right back.

Are you having a fucking laugh? The punch that led to the second goal for starters, it was fucking chest height and a catch a ten year old would have took! Absolutely pathetic.

Did you not notice the flawless display at the other end?

Fucking blind some of you.
