I agree he is trying to pass forward more, which is needed and welcome.

Now if he can work on introducing himself to the rest of his foot so he can stop side footing everything he could really kick on.
So, what you're saying is essentially that you want him to blast things around aimlessly and needlessly with his laces, attempt a Lamine Yamal/Isco-style outside of his foot pass or start backheeling it like he thinks he's a young CR7 - and if he does that, he's basically De Bruyne 2.0?

I'm not a massive fan of his and there are definitely negatives to discuss about Whiteman - I personally don't think he suits playing in a side that doesn't have more of the ball than the opposition, and therefore he probably isn't going to be in his element here whilst we are in the Championship and treading water at best - but hating on the fact he's trying to strike the ball with the part of his foot that provides anyone with the most accuracy is certainly a new straw to clutch at!

No but trying to side foot one in from 30 yards is never going to happen (even tried it on a volley). There is a time to use other parts of your foot - he never does it. Corners, pings, volleys, shots regardless of distance all side footed.

I have noticed this myself, I’ve never seen him actually strike a ball with any venom like Potts against the lashers. He always seems to side foot it. Every goal he has scored that I can think of has been with the side of his foot. Blackpool free kick, Cardiff away, Huddersfield away? Sure there is more.

Are we really applauding someone on upwards of 15k p/w for having a 'decent shot'? That’s really clutching at straws.

This post sums up where we are as a club in just accepting mediocracy.

His stats may show he passes forward but mainly because he's sat on the defenders toenails and passing it at a 10 degree angle to the right wing back who is 2 yards further forward than him . His set pieces are consistently poor and his goals and assists since he joined the club are next to none.

I just don't see what he offers and if PH wants to play the football he says he does I just don't think he fits into the team - of course he will be in the team though because he's been given a long contract on big wages and made club captain.

He's changing his game and deserves credit. Nothing to do with accepting mediocrity.

so you don't think PH wants him but the club do and so PH is forced to play him ??

personally I believe PH wants him and thats all I need to know...

With the current injury situation PH has no choice but to play Whiteman.
Next season with a fully fit squad and assuming he predominantly sticks with the same formation he’ll be 2nd choice behind Thor….if he’s happy with that fair enough.
Do I think PH would have agreed to his contract extension if he’d been manager….definitely not.

Absolutely agree, at the moment there’s no real choice but to play him. However, most of our best performances this season have come without him in the side and he’s also been hauled off 3 (I think) times at half time.

yes I do as I know how respected he is within the club...

Should never of been given a new contact, lumbered with him for 4 more years as no other club would be daft enough to pay him what we do 🤬
so if PH doesnt want him he can sell him for money........ seeing as it was Bournemouth who wanted him before he signed for us I suspect 'somebody' would want him...

.

You believe that? 🙂

I actually think he's a good squad player, he shouldn't be a first team starter if the squad is fully fit though.

That may be true, but with years later, and proven average at best at this level, I don't think he's gonna have the same prospectors is he?

Big difference between gambling on a league 1 standout to step up, and expecting someone who hasn't stood out in his years starting, at his prime age, at this level to miraculously improve as he approaches 30.

Word for word what I would have written.

If McCann was fit I don’t think Whiteman plays. I also think in an ideal world and if he could utilise Whiteman’s wages elsewhere, he would.

But nobody is going to take Whiteman off us and pay him what we are.

He’s playing at the moment out of necessity and hardly playing well. PH has also hauled him off a number of times at half time and probably could’ve done it’s a number more.
