Great advice Muzza
I’d still use “Retired” rather than “Two bottles in” just in case the cost of living drags you back into work

One year on and things came to a head again this morning which resulted in losing my shit and having a meltdown.
Came as a result of something trivial (arguments over the heating) and ended up with me swearing quite loudly at who I was arguing with (a surprise to people at work but shouldn't come as a surprise to people on here!).
Ended up having a meltdown and saying I was quitting - came to my senses when I sat in my car though.
Had a meeting to sort things out and we both apologised to each other so as far as that's concerned, it's water under the bridge as my outburst and meltdown was a result of an accumulation of issues.
However, it's convinced me even more that I don't see my long term future at the company and I really need to consider my mental health as I feel it's being damaged. Seriously considering getting signed off if I can as I feel myself edging towards a breakdown.
Came close to leaving last year but stayed on and decided to do an NVQ in customer service (which I'm currently smashing - 44% over my expected progress and a distinction grade in every module/unit where it was possible) so hopefully that will stand me in good stead going forward.
I realise I'm not asking anything in this post but needed somewhere to vent.

Even a short break may be helpful, Gaz. sometimes its good to just remove ourselves from a situation.
I'm seriously considering it. Think you can request a 'FIT' (sick) note from the doctors via the NHS app which I may just do.
I think today was a new low. I apologised and so did the guy I had an argument with - water under the bridge as far as we were concerned, but his line manager didn't seem quite as forgiving. I got the impression he wanted to take it further (investigation and all that) but had quite clearly been slapped down by HR (to be fair, he's always been a knob anyway).
My own line manager, the receptionist and the lady from HR have been a huge support and I've also had a fantastic message from another work colleague.
I know it will leave my close work colleagues in the lurch but I need a break from the stress and toxicity.

I think if things have really come to a head then getting signed off for a month might be the best option.
You said earlier in the thread that you could work from home, is that still an option and would doing that for a few weeks help? if you are out of the office environment.
Something I've always found and it might just be me, but it's always seemed easier to get another job when I'm in a job. Last time I was out of work and granted it was during Covid, but the weeks out of work pass in the blink of an eye. You start chasing opportunities on Monday and before you know it it's Friday again. Just something to consider. Now while you're at work or even if you do get signed off just start putting the feelers out to see what other work is out there for you. Something unexpected might just peak your interest and give you the lift that you need professionally.
