Matchday Thread PNE v Norwich City - 13/4/24 - KO:3PM - Championship

Met up with my son, daughter and their three friend, all of whom are Norwich fans, straight after the game had finished only to be informed that we should have been given a penalty in the first half. They said that as the fall came down after hitting the crossbar one of their players, cannot remember who they said, moved an arm out and knocked the ball away from a North End player with his arm.

Ref gave us very little an never got to grips with their eternity when taking set pieces.
Having said that, why didn't Browne get in the refs ear about it? He's the skipper, he's allowed to, to an extent

Too far away to spot subtleties from the other end but will watch the replay.

Mads was dreadful today, I was wondering if he’d had a spread bet on how many misplaced passes, can’t believe he wasn’t taken off earlier, Holmes was dead on his feet after an hour, if we’d had Millar, Whiteman, McCann and Potts this afternoon we’d have probably won.

Thats outrageous. He misplaced some passes but he was available, influential and key to any possible win. When he went off, there was nobody available to link midfield to attack and predictably we fell apart.

Just finally brought myself round from the disappointment of the result, decided to watch the goal back and I'm honestly just fed up. Brady and Hughes looked like they were the chuckle brothers trying to play football and fucking Lindsay yet again getting sold by a telegraphed fake shot.

Lowe threw the dice, we needed the win. He would have been slaughtered, also, had not tried to do something to buy the win.
Not having that @raefil
I generally agree with you but your wrong here. Why play players out of position because they are goalscorers?
Holmes was creating chances and after he went off we had nothing on the right. This isn’t hindsight, I said it straight away that we had no shape.
Keane looked tired so swap him with a natural number 10 like Browne and bring Ledson on.

Lowe has done well in my eyes but today was very poor management

He threw the dice against Huddersfield and luckily it came off against a side fighting off relegation.
It came off because we put balls for Osmajic to run onto or crosses into the box for him to get on the end of, it worked and he got us three goals and the win.
Today in a must win game when we needed to score he took off the player who had beaten his marker on a number of occasions and put over a good few crosses for Ched Evans coming back from a long term injury,.
His get out of jail card who.scored a hat trick mid week in eight minutes is then played at RWB and Evans as a lone striker.😵‍💫☹️🤔

Explain the dice throw against Huddersfield!

He swapped a centre forward for another centre forward, hardly a massive gamble

Same old today.
Seriously disappointed but I know I shouldn’t be.
It’s frankly been a joke that we still had a chance of playoffs with the crap that’s been served up most of the time.
I struggle to see much progression at all over the season compared to last and I can’t remember too many times I’ve been excited to watch us
Major issue for me is club mentality. We start with aspirations of playoffs - that’s second prize before we even start the season. Then there’s various watered targets - top half, better than last season etc. and this is vocalised by the manager (and probably others above him). It’s lame
Yes, exactly. Regardless of today's result, individual performances or questionable substitutions... this style of football simply isn't gonna get us promoted - this year or any year.

Every team I watch on Sky (bar Rotherham) have a better standard of possession football. Whilst we offer a bog standard anti-football methodology with some lipstick slapped on.

The end result (midtable mediocrity) causes the club to deem these tactical methods acceptable. But shouldn't we strive to be a bit more than that?

So that a game isn't lost simply because our one creative player has an off day. Or our striker misses the one half chance that falls their way.

The club is standing still on and off the field and the only concern seems to be keeping the current playing and non-playing staff in jobs for as long as physically possible.

Thats the only over riding game plan here. No doubt the club will fob us off this summer with cheap tickets to keep us quiet before the yearly Craig penned austerity sermon about parachute payments*.

*As once again another club (Ipswich) make a mockery of such statements

The ref wasn’t the best …..

He let Norwich get away with lots of time wasting and at the end of the game he only added 4 minutes on which was ridiculous..

We'd long lost the game by then. Some others clutching at straws blaming the ref. We were the authors of our own downfall. A winnable game that I think Moyes, Davies and Grayson might have managed. At least a spirited final 20 mins instead of a freefall.

Lowe’s midfield selection today was baffling. You want to create you pick a side with balance with players in their accepted positions. Why didn’t he go for Ledson ( Whiteman role) Browne and Mads? Three midfielders in their best positions, not square pegs in round holes. The shape of the team at the end of the game was comic cuts. So many badges , so little sense. ( re Ledson’s Fitness …he could have shifted Holmes and brought on a full back if he was struggling )

Whatmough was alright in that DM spot - that was probably one of the very few good things to take from today. Brady and Holmes also positives to some extent.

Mads wasn't just extremely poor, he was petulant with it - arms flailing like a kid.
Osmajic, hattrick midweek or not, he's Ostragic.
Freddie made some good stops but his kicking is staff.

Another season done, progress made*

*allegedly
Whatnough - joke. Could not take the ball on the half turn and take us forward. Stupud decision wirh ledson on bench
