Matchday Thread Sheffield Utd v PNE | 25.04.26 | KO: 3PM | Championship
Went KFC init.Do we know why Milly and Offiah weren’t in the squad?
NoI’m in a bit of a quandary…I know they really pushed early in the second half but was going to a back five the answer?

Back on coach and pleased with 3pts! Also pleased with first half performance but we do make things difficult at times? Sheff U were poor today but we did ok as I’ve said especially in the first 45 mins.
Rode our luck a little in second half &
I couldn’t see from my vantage point if it was a penalty or not? It was as the ref awarded it but this give them a bit more impetus although I have to say not as much as I was expecting?
We scored the 3rd in all honesty it could and probably should have been more?
Pleased overall and I’ll have a few beers 🍺 when home.
One more thing we had a good following today and they were very loud at times! Really pleasing to see for a dead rubber, end of season, flip flops on game!!!

They’ve both played in a back 4 before, like most centre halves they’ve played in a back 4 an awful lot during their development and as professionals. With the right full backs, they’re capable of doing so and disproving this accepted truth that they’re incapable.Enjoyable match on the whole and we played some lovely stuff in the first half. Dobbin. Devine, Jebison, and Moran were fizzing the ball round with Thompson in Whiteman’s role in front of the back 4. Who’d have thought that Lindsay and Storey could have played that well in a back 4. My only criticism on the day was that we were visibly weakened by the introduction of Potts and Brady but maybe I’m being too harsh and should be focusing on Dobbin and Devine’s brilliant interplay and ability.

I think Thompson isn't a starter when everyone is fit, but a good squad player. The Stoke fans thought he was ok.Great result from a performance that was for the most part not much more than hardworking. At half-time I was wondering if we could nevertheless get a couple more to reverse a 4-0 scoreline there that I witnessed long ago in the days when their ground was also still a cricket pitch.
As it was I didn't think even at 3-1 up that it was safe because they were doing what we really weren't doing which is getting the ball on the ground and playing in a fast pass-and-move style. We have to be frank and admit that we had a central midfield of a Div1 player Thompson and a class act but still slightly out-of-position Devine who really needs to operate further forward - we need someone like Armstrong there next season. Right at the end Devine threw his shirt to the crowd I hope that wasn't a tacit admission that he won't be needing it in future.
But it was a frantic match far more exciting than you might expect from a fixture so close to the end of the season. But football can always surprise you.

Do we know why Milly and Offiah weren’t in the squad?
Spotted both Osmajic and Whiteman at the end, didn't spot Offiah
Doesn't answer your question like, but it's added context
With the right full backs, they’re capable of doing so and disproving this accepted truth that they’re incapable.
Which from our current squad would be Offiah and Vukcevic - I thought the latter played well today apart from when he was caught out by that ball over the top that led to their second. But MoM was surely LIndsay not just for his goals but for a sterling defensive display.
Oh well, not the best decision of mine to give this one a miss. Sounded like a great game and three points at Bramhall Lane are always welcome. Well done the lads today.
You sound absolutely gutted that North End won the match today.Well it's a fact the players have been on the beach since January, only won cause Sheffield are even more on the beach and just got slapped 3-1 by Blackburn
A fortunate win over a wank on the beach team just papers over the cracks of a manager who has had the best players to work with yet the worst win % and performances
Good for the fans that travelled and that's it

And who are these ‘best players to work with’? And comparing to who?Well it's a fact the players have been on the beach since January, only won cause Sheffield are even more on the beach and just got slapped 3-1 by Blackburn

Been out for the day. Hadn’t looked at the scores (was dreading it to be fair) but great result. Be great to finish the season with another win. Be there next week
If it wasn’t for the fact he was a patron I would have suspected he was a Lasher on the wind up.You sound absolutely gutted that North End won the match today.

Just back after a terrific day out in Sheffield.
Surprised to see us in the back four. Great start thanks to Captain Lindsay, and Sheff Utd being absolutely awful. They kept smacking it forward to Bamford so we dealt with them pretty easily.
Second half they changed it and were much more of a threat down the sides. The move to a back five was the right call for more coverage, but sadly Brady looked absolutely miles off the pace. Sheff Utd had chances when they had nothing to lose, but Dobbin could’ve quite easily had a hat trick.
Close call between Jebbison and Lindsay for MOTM. Unbelievable shift from Jebbo, but Lindsay’s two goals and a solid defensive shift individually means he just pips it.
We’ve just gone to Bramall Lane and won with numerous key players missing: Offiah, Hughes, Whiteman, McCann, Lang, Osmajic. They’d have been on the pitch today at some point had they all been fit. Just a top shift from the lads, who definitely can’t be accused of being on the beach.

Radio Lancashire said it looked like he dived.Saw the highlights earlier. No way a penalty for me.
I think Thompson gets bad press because he’s not the fastest player but he does pass forwards far quicker than Ben Whiteman does and I didn’t notice any sideways and back safely play today.
