Best to assume we won't sign him to avoid the almost inevitable disappointment. If it happens, fantastic. If not, on to the next one (or 4).

A question was asked on FB -

North End have an option to sign Alfie Devine this summer & the Riddler has already stated personal terms have been agreed.
Would YOU want the club to pay £4.5m for the Spurs man this summer
❓

A mate of mine who seems to be somehow in with the players (sits with the players, players families in the IPS) replied with this below.

Definitely. Just the issue of funds to fill the rest of the gaps that need filling/improving. Which makes me think we won't end up triggering it as it's a large amount for us on one player.

If it was to happen, the rest of the summer would likely need to be frees and loans again, which isn't ideal.

Certainly won't be any brand spanking new pitch either 😄

I will answer this another way JD, could you see North End with the present ownership spending £4.5 million on Devine.?

Unless it is structured, then difficult to see them paying it all in one or even 2 lump sums.

Why though would they agree a fee and personal terms though if they're just going to act like tyre kickers 12 months down the line?

I stand by my judgement from earlier in the season that he’s the best loan we’ve had since promotion. Doesn’t do the magic of McGeady but is a better all round player.

He’s absolutely integral to us playing well. When Devine is on it, North End are. He does every aspect of being a midfielder, not just the creativity he was brought in to do. Played most of the first half of the season with an injury and still ran himself into the ground

I don’t think he’ll sign and think the whispers that he will are unfounded, but anyone turning him down is just daft

Realistically, there's a more ambitious club out there who would pay him twice what we can and with the current financial trends in the Prem, Spurs would want a bigger fee to act as pure profit from an academy player.
I mentioned this in the summer transfer thread I think: Last season 1. FC Nürnberg had Greek striker Stefanos Tzimas on loan from PAOK. Brighton came in for him but instead of purchasing directly from PAOK, Nürnberg exercised their option to buy to then immediately profited by selling him to Brighton. I'd be massively overestimating the abilities of Ridsdale to suggest this as realistic but it's something that should be considered if there are links to other clubs before his contract here ends.

I'd love to see Devine back permanently but I think Dobbin would be an even better signing for us.

I am an Alfie fan. We should go all out to sign him. The owners have known since his loan deal was signed what is required. They will have had nearly 12 months to sort funding out. Alfie signing would be a big addition to the assets of the club.
I would go as far as making him captain as he is able to lead by example.
