Even if he turns out to be shite (hopefully not) then it's still the right type of signing. A very low risk (£1m is fuck all for a championship football club) on a 22 year old with 2 full seasons at this level is exactly what we need to be doing.

The other thing to consider is he was in two shite, failing teams at Rovers and Stoke.

Never had a chance in a team that’s done either with better players surrounding him.

Yep Stoke were awful last year and were the near the relegation zone, Rovers stayed up on the final day of the season thanks to Szmodics but were terrible for nearly the entire season.

Even so hes managed to rack up some goals and assists at this level and on a permanent deal at a positive club he could really do well.

Got to remember he is only 22. From what I have seen/read it seems like he has bags of ability, travels with the ball well which we need, but is a bit lightweight. He probably needed a permanent home and I think Hecky and McCall could be ideal for him in terms of turning him from a potentially good player at this level to an actual one.

People wanted us to sign Louie Barry on a loan with an option. Moran is a very similar type of player, similar strengths and weaknesses but with better Champ experience and a better injury return

Quite like what I've seen there having not known anything about him before today. Noticed he got the assist for Szmodics when we played them at Ewood.

If I was Hecky, after reports of his times at Rovers and Stoke being quite poor, I would make sure his debut was against anyone bar Watford just to break the cycle of "jinxed" debuts. 🤣
