Cup Matches - Your favourite memories

I will always remember this game also as I was sitting in the old Pavilion stand right in line with Conroy when he scored that goal. If I remember rightly Neil Trebble hooked the ball on for Conroy's goal & phill Brown was playing at RB for the scum that night.

We did what Bradford did but on a lot bigger scale reaching the final of the FA Cup when it was the competition to win in 1964! .Manchester United and West Ham United was the other semi final but it was West Ham who we played. As a school boy seeing your team then a second division side playing in an FA Cup final was a dream come true and that memory will stay with me for the rest of my life!

Same for me Surf. I saw us in every round with my Dad including the final. If my Dad was alive I reckon he'd say 1938 - he saw us win the fucker!

We ALWAYS get beat against the 'big boys!'

Not an FA Cup game but a League Cup game, 10th September 1974, we were in the 3rd Division and beat Sunderland from Division 2, who had won the FA Cup in 1973, 2-0 at home.
Another night match, great atmposphere, Tony Morley and a Bobby Charlton scoring for North End Witnessed by 13,279, with a big following from Sunderland filling the Town End.
Great way for a young lad to celebrate his Birthday ! 😀

This was one of my favourite Deepdale memories - forget the schoolwork and head for the floodlights.
Their team was pretty much made up of the players who'd recently won the FA Cup, but our victory was well-deserved.
My recollection may be fogged, but in this era the Town End was home fans' territory.
On another night around this time, there was talk of chisel-wielding sheffield wednesday fans trying to climb in.
I have a very clear memory of Tony Morley surging down the left wing and planting the perfect cross onto Mel Holden's head to score. (That might have been from several matches, of course).
I surged down to the bottom of the Town End, finishing up at the wall near the Evening Post snapper on the other side.
He took the picture of the goal celebration, exactly how I saw it.
It was a brilliant, joyful image of the big man and the winger - I've been trying to get hold of a copy for ages.
Anyone got a pile of ancient LEPs lying in a loft?

If this was a close up of TM giving Big Mel a huge hug, I kept a scrap book as a nine year old during this season and know this picture was in it !
I kept the scrap book along with all my old programmes of that time, but do not kow if I could find them ?
When next up in the loft I will have a look. 😀

Yes, that's the picture. Big pints - at the very least - if you can find it. Good luck up the loft!

I have found the scrapbook and yes the photograph of Big Mel and Tony Morley is in it. Not the best but, you can see the joy on both of their faces.
My problem is how do I post this on here ? I know how to do this from the net etc, but not got a clue how to do this ?
Any help would be appreciated.

Coincidentally, some rare footage of the FA Cup game V Man Utd from '66 has been uploaded to Youtube in the past couple of days. Defo worth a glance. The kop looks great full.

26/2 1962 Monday night snowing dinner plates at Old Trafford PNE V Liverpool FA Cup 5th round 2nd replay and we beat em 1 - 0. Willie Cunningham did a somersault on the pitch when we scored. Brilliant night full house what an atmosphere. There as a 12 year old.

Obviously winning the Semi in 64 and the Final was a brilliant exerience too. But 2 years earlier was my first real feeling of love for this game and PNE.

Never lost it.

Losing 4 nil or 4 -1 at home to Telford. Made me realise it could only get better. But it didn't!

One of my mates at the time went straight off the game and burnt his season ticket on Moor Park........

He went grovelling back to the ticket office on monday and told them that he had lost it !!!

Can't be arsed watching that. Did we win?

No, thought not.

Glory days my arse!

i wouldnt say drawing 1-1 with man utd in the 6th round of the fa cup is a bad result
...would u? best, law, charlton etc in the side.

Get back to counting your prozac you miserable shitehawk. See you tomorrow.

We had drawn both previous games 0-0, Peter Thompson scored the winner for North End in the replay at Old Trafford, my dad stiil tells me what a great game this was. 😀

Wisemen, I am sure your Dad has the same terrific memories of the night as I had. Absolutely brilliant, didn't get back into Preson until the early hours cause of the snow and school next day. Kids today wouldn't believe you 🙂
And I had gravel for breakfast!!

Like I said, couldn't be arsed watching, but knew we didn't win. A draw at home to Man U nearly 50 years ago is the best we can do. Bloody great! Were you there?

Hate watching old footage of the "good times", it's just a stark reminder of how crap we are these days.

Following this club for 30 years, and we never win the big ones, the games that truly matter. Seriously regret signing up for this shit at times.

Our day will come. Probably when I'm dead. Nice one.
