Because the people who do "rate him" are so fucking fervent and obsessive in their defence of him, that's why.
The name-calling starts when someone (usually shaky or I, FWIW) points out that he is error-prone, which is a fact backed up by overwhelming evidence.

I can understand people having a discussion about the said player, simply because that's what the forum is here for. When it gets to far, the thread should be locked, I agree, but it should never get that far.
So again, all your doing is putting your opinion out there, which is what the forum is for, yet it turns into a slanging match. It's really pathetic that it gets that far over an opinion.
Both sides are as bad as each other. The people who love him are oblivious to his errors and fight losing battles all the time (often embarrassingly so). On the flip side, Shaky calls Lonners a cunt and wishes he would fuck off etc which is a bit harsh.

One could say that every goalkeeper is error prone, otherwise they would never concede a goal 😛
Lonergan does have his faults though, but then again so does every other keeper (look at what one of this country's supposed top three keepers did against the USA)
I cant say I have ever agreed with the overly-harsh criticism of Lonners, for me he is a good keeper, but more than that he is a PRESTON lad and for that alone should not be so harshly spoken about, or is that what we have come to these days, to slag our own off?
The fact that he's a local lad shouldn't come into it.
