So Who Now ?

So Who Now ?

We have won one game, so I'm not sure we can say 'if it aint broke, don't fix it' just yet.

The players were always going to raise their game for last night, no matter who was in charge, just because we had new people in charge, it happens virtually every time a team gets rid of a manager.

I'm not saying GA won't become a good manager at some point (I'm also not saying he will either), I just don't think we are in a position to take a chance on it at this time.

Yes most clubs tend to win their first game under a new manager, and there can be an upturn in results and performances. Would you care to name the last manager who won his first game for us though, cos I can't bloody remember!

All I'm saying is, who could have come in and done a better job last night? Why not give thema month or so to prove their worth? It would be foolish imo not to see what they're capable of. Obviously if it starts to go wrong, we can see it isn't working and bring in a new man.

Perfect sense to me.

Thing with that though Neal is we still have a chance of the play offs. Make a decent appointment now and our season could take off!! If it goes wrong then it may all be too late. And we could lose out on a proven manager that is currently out of work. Tough call.

Well not being Mystic Meg I don't have all the answers.

But if we were to bring in someone like Dave Jones, for example, he would likely want his own players & back room staff, which would mean yet more upheaval, whilst new players have to take time to gel, and all that bollocks.

The turnover of players in the last couple of years has been bloody ridiculous, and one of the main contributors to our struggles, if you ask me.

At least with these two we would have stability, which is one thing this club desperately needs.

You may disagree? Fine.

But at the end of day, it'll be down to Pete & Trev to make that very tough call. What will be will be.

For me it's Billy Davies, if not then these two carry on. One game is one game, they may lose the next two at home.

Nugent's coming back as Player Manager on Friday!

On a more serious note:

Agreed, good post.

I agree with you Tu Tu, the decision on who to appoint is a massive decision for our club and one that The Riddler and TH must get right. Not only could the appointment give us a chance of the play offs, but could be one that turns the fortune and future of our club round and gets back that feel good factor.

I know it's only one game! Hence why I said if things start to go wrong, ie. lose next 2 home games, then I would bring in a new guy (SOD for me btw).

But they've not done anything wrong yet, so it would be harsh / unneccessary AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME to replace them!

Billy would be fine, but it's the travelling circus he brings with him, that hacks me off.

Do we really need Kelly, Darby, Williams and Balderstone around the place again?

It would spell the end for Rhino, Hoyland, Ramsdale, Jackson, which imo would be very unfair.

Plus don't forget, he'll constantly be sniffing round looking for "bigger" jobs, and as soon as a more lucrative offer comes in he'll be off like a shot.

IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT? 'COS THAT'S WHAT WILL HAPPEN!

All very valid points....more importantly how was the party lastnight?

!

The thing is though he would have to be doing exceptionally well with us for the "bigger" jobs to be interested (otherwise he would be in work now) and, that then begs the questions how far he would have taken us and, if as far as touching distance why would he risk losing that?

Drank myself into oblivion as per til the wee small hours, amusing ourselves with comedy gold, Brass Eye (Cake & Paedo special) The Day Today (The horse race / World Cup) Harry Enfield (Poppet on a Swing) & Reeves & Mortimer (DLT / Edmonds clip).

If you do nothing else to day, make sure you watch some of these on You Tube. You will howl with laughter - guaranteed! Trust me I'm a stomach!

We have potentially an able and affordable partnership who might just be a long term solution. Most of us hoped that when Ferguson, then Brown were appointed we had found the Messiahs. How wrong can you be. What is more, it didn't take long to suss out either of them. I say give Unsworth and Alexander a few games at least. There is absolutely no guarantee that a new face will turn things around and then faced with that, we could be in real, real trouble.

There are supposed to be many "Antichrists" before the real messiah.

The more I think about it, the more I think Unsworth/Alexander could be the way to go, at least until the end of the season. After listening to the interviews with them after the game, I just love the way they spoke. No bullshit, no bravado. They played players in their correct positions, got us incredibly organised and seem to have the full backing of the squad. I also think the decision to make Coutts captain could be an inspired choice. Both of these lads love the club and want nothing more than for us to succeed. Last time we had someone as passionate as that, he got us promoted from this league......

Yes.
Both the style of play and the way in which Grezzworth conducted themselves and used the collective 'us' (meaning everyone from the tea lady up) suggested that they had learnt more from Moyes/Davis than anyone else. Still one swallow and all that, lets see what happens over the Xmas period.
