Just re-read that, should be Bristol are 11th on HOME formWell December was largely dissapointing, 7 points from 6 games. Even more disappointing was that the Norwich game was the only one I was back for. Some in the AKTE suggested I should stay in Portugal. We now sit 12 points below the 1st place line, about 9 points below the 2nd place line and 1 and a half points below the play-offs line. Also, behind the monthly target I suggested at the start of the thread.
Form wise for the last 6 matches we are 17th out of 24. Home form for the last 4 home matches we are 22nd. I'm hoping alarm bells are ringing somewhere. I havent normally bothered too much with Manager statistics but Heckingbottom after 68 games has a win percentage of 27.94% and is averaging 1.279 points per game. The only managers in the last 25 years with a worse record are Craig Brown, Phil Brown, Westley and Fergusson. I accept that last seasons figures make it worse, but we could probably pick bits out of anyone's time and say that.
So to January. 6 League Matches again, Sheff Weds, Derby, and Hull at home; Bristol City, Middlesbrough, and Ipswich away and an FA Cup game. Sheff W are 21st on away form(D1 L3), Derby 9th (W1 D1 L2), and Hull 1st (W3 D1) Bristol are 11th on away form (W2 D1 L1), Middlesbrough 12th (W2 D1 L1) and Ipswich 4th (W3 D1). Now I can't see 12 points out of that as things are at the moment, even 6 or 7 is looking through very rose tinted specs.
I'm starting to think that my jokey 62 points and 11th at the start of this thread is looking more likely than play-offs, although I think around 68-70 points and 9th or 8th are more likely just now.
Anyway, Happy New Year
Statistics and the new season
So there we go, another 7 points from 6 games month. Knocked out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle didn't help. We are now 5 points behind the target I suggested at the start of this thread, 13 points behind where we should be for 2nd and 4 points behind where we should be for play-offs. We hjave the 7th best Away record (P15 W5 D6 L4) but are 14th on Home games (P15 W6 D5 L4). Based on the form in the last 8 games we are 19th with 8 points from those 8 games. There is no doubting that we had some tough fixtures, but the battering our goal difference has taken could end up being significant. S, to February 5 matches - 3 of them at home. Pompey have only won 2 of 13 away games and Watford 3 out of 14. Millwall however have won 5 and drawn 5 of their 14 away games. Away, first of the Plastics, they've won 3 and drawn 5 of their 16 home games. Swansea however have won 7 and drawn 4 of their home games. I dont think it unreasonable that we win at least 3 of these games and draw the other 2.
I do think though that its a tough ask to get back to challenging for play offs, I think we would need to win all 5 this month to be in with a shout. 13 points might do it depending on what Wrexham and Derby do.

We're 4 points outside the play offs (dropping 2 points in the 92nd minute to Ipswich was costly) but I'm fairly sure 12 points out 15 in February would see us back in the play offs.

We ideally need a decent month, but other teams will drop points too. 3rd-5th are pulling away a little now though. But Wrexham play Milwall, Ipswich and Bristol this month. Derby play Ipswich, Watford and Hull this month.
Milwall have a run of 5 out of 6 against us, Hull, Derby, Ipswich and Middlesbrough coming up end of Feb through March and into April.
Still a lot that will happen. It'll be tough though. A lot of decent, closely contested teams fighting for just a few spots.
A bad month this month though and it would be quite the uphill struggle.

Optimistic for a side with 2 wins in 9

Hoping the new signings and the imminent return of Iversen may put a spring in our step.

It would be nice if we could beat Rovers and get a point at Swansea..We will only know the reality after the Millwall game although you may be right.

That would give us a better yield , 9 from 15
I think you're being a little pessimistic, but have nothing concrete to say you are likely to be wrong. I think we could win the first 3. Having said that I've never won Super6 or beaten Bill Hill significantly so what do I know 😂Portsmouth W

That would be a play off level of points. It would be nice if we could beat Rovers and get a point at Swansea..

Swansea has been a shocker of a ground for us in recent seasons so would be happy with a point there and it’s always good to beat Rovers.
I’d settle for that ( just about) as long as you got 5 less points in the 5 game period 😃Portsmouth W

Best case scenario, right? Keeps everyone happy 😏

Swap the Portsmouth and Milwall results round. Rather give points to Portsmouth near the relegation than Milwall above us 😂Portsmouth W

I think the Millwall fan posting said predictions might not be keen on that oneSwap the Portsmouth and Milwall results round. Rather give points to Portsmouth near the relegation than Milwall above us 😂

Didn't even pay attention to the name. Defo win against Milwall then 😄I think the Millwall fan posting said predictions might not be keen on that one
I don't remember that being part of the agreement!I’d settle for that ( just about) as long as you got 5 less points in the 5 game period 😃
It’s an amendment to it! Got to keep you in our sight 🙂I don't remember that being part of the agreement!
Even using just this season it's only 36.67%. What worries me more is that he only averages 1.28 points per game (1.47 this season). 43% of games under Hecky have been draws (37% this season). As much as the football has been better than of late, even on the potato field, entertainment value doesn't have a column in the League table. Recent Manager League win % :- Moyes 48.5%, Davies 46%, Grayson 42.4%, Irvine 40.4%, Simpson 40.3%, Lowe 38.1%, McAvoy 38%, Neil 37.5%, C Brown 33%, P Brown 31%, Ferguson 23.6%, Westley 22.6%.View attachment 32401
Was surprised to Hecky so high up but presume the bad run last season and the numerous draws have effected his %
OK, so I'm now at the "I wish I'd never started this" stage. 5 points from 3 home games and 2 away in February is the sort of form you expect from teams being relegated. We are now between 9 and 22 points behind my confected target which started this thread. We are, luckily (after 35 games) 10 points above where we would need to be to avoid relegation. To be fair we are safe. The average points for 22nd (since re-organization in 92/93) is 46.42 points. The highest was 54 points (Peterborough 2012/3) and the lowest was 37 points (also Peterborough 2021/2).Ok so the fixtures are out, lets look at where we should/could be month by month.
Firstly lets look at automatic promotion. The average since 92/3 for 2nd place is 87.67 points (1.906 points per game); the highest ever is 100 points (2.174 ppg). working mainly on the theory that winning at home and drawing away gets you 92 points this is a working target. Secondly, the next target is 6th. The average (again since 92/3) is 73.55 points (1.6 ppg) The highest is 80 points (1.74 ppg) working on the same theory three quarters of the points should be at home. There is rounding going on before the Aug/Sep thing is pointed out!
Aug 2xH 2xA target 6-8 points (Running total 6-8)
Sep 2xH 2xA target 7-8 points (13-16)
Oct 3xH 1xA target 8-10 points (21-26)
Nov 2xH 4xA target 8-10 points (29-36)
Dec 3xH 3xA target 10-12 points (39-48)
Jan 3xH 3xA target 10-12 points (49-60)
Feb 3xH 2xA target 9-11 points (58-71)
Mar 2xH 2xA target 6-8 points (64-79)
Apr 2xH 4xA target 8-10 points (72-89)
May 1xH target 2-3 points (74-92)
All that having been said 61 or 62 points and 11th would be normal.
If you want my guess (you're getting it anyway) Coventry have it in the bag, 'Boro, Ipswich, Hull and Millwall will fill 2nd to 5th, I've a feeling Southampton will pip Wrexham for 6th. Us ------- somewhere between 60 and 65 points - League position, frankly between 7th and 21st who cares.
