Team v Wolves.

Based on...?

His championship career up to this point hasn't been impressive. His physical traits are very unimpressive, weak and not particularly quick. I get he's still young but he will be 23 in a couple of months, still looks like a youth player.

Showed some flashes at the end of last season, but had plenty of awful games too. Now finds himself down the pecking order in a squad that is still expecting additions.

If Pol gets anywhere near the first team on Saturday Hecky needs to be binned off
My blind dead nan god rest he soul knows Pol is a shocking footballer and is league 2 quality at best

Still more than Woodburn ever did. Cannot remember any single game he looked good other than Blackburn 1-4 PNE.

Time will tell, feels extremely harsh at this stage to be bracketing Moran with The Substitute Crisp Packet.

Milly owes us a massive performance and Saturday he once again fluffed his lines, just what was he thinking?

I think we need to sell him now
Is he on beta-blockers or some calming medication? I know it sounds bonkers, but where's his aggression gone?
Whatever he's doing, it's not performance enhancing.

Agreed, not seen much to convince me he’s good enough for this level yet. Just don’t think he’s got a single outstanding attribute.

I have a feeling that if he doesn’t get a new CB he may switch back to a 5-3-2.
Can’t ever see the Offiah / Gibson pairing working against most teams in the Championship.

The squad is certainly in between ideas at the moment - going from a 532 to a 4231.

For me, as I think we are all saying, we don't have enough CBs that can play in a 2 together to make it work.

Storey - fine in the middle of a 3, but in a 2 or either side of a 3 he is exposed.
Lindsay - see Storey but to a much more significant degree owing to his lack of pace.
Hughes - LCB back-up in a 3 only.
Offiah - good at RB or RCB in a 3. Would be content with him starting in a 2 if paired with someone much better in the air.
Gibson - pretty much a left-footed Offiah, other than he shouldn't be at fullback and has looked at his best in the middle of a 3.

As much as I am content that we have brought in Devine, Erabi, Leroy and Clarke, and are rumoured to want Mills, we are crying out for a Bauer/Huntington-type of defender who will get their bonce on fucking everything for a 2 to work. If we don't have one of those, we need to rely on someone who can only play somewhat reliably in a 3 for us to not look lightweight.

Raul Jimenez will have a fucking field day if we play a 2.

He’s got a lot to do to convince he’s any more useful than Ben Woodburn, let alone start in a deep role
I think his 7 goals at this level prove that.

Ben woodburn with just the 1. Moran is only 22 yet has over 80 games at this level. Woodburn at the same age (when he joined us) had 17. There is literally no link between the two.

I'm not arguing that he is lacking talent in the way Woodburn is. The goal and assist he has managed for us showed ability that woodburn never showed.

It’s more that I just don’t see him impacting games anywhere near frequently enough. He’s got 80 games sure, but it’s not as though Stoke or Blackburn fans had much desire to see him return. In fact many of those fans pointed out the same issues I have.

End of the day, he’s not getting many minutes now. We’re likely to make 2 additions in both the positions he will be competing for.

At present, he’s a guy we bring off the bench because we’ve got no one else to bring off the bench. Basically where we were at with BW. He’s a better player, sure, but more impactful? Not really in my view. Certainly not at present, but definitely has potential to improve a lot

I'd argue more Josh Harrop actually than Ben Woodburn. Shows flashes of quality (which we never saw from Woodburn) but very rarely impacts the game at all. Also, incredibly lightweight.

Yeah that's a better comparison actually.

Hope he turns out to be better than Harrop though

Trippier and Mosquera are supposedly out for Saturday.

Although I thought Rodrigues being out for Bolton would help us as well!

I wouldn’t actually be against going to a 5 back against Wolves. Osmajic and Erabi could potentially form a good partnership and until we get genuine wingers I don’t think playing Burgzorg/ Lang/ Devine on the wings is the answer
