Ben Davies

What the hell does this mean? I agree with your post, he did well on debut although I feared the worst when Coventry dominated and attacked that side, he looked exposed and could have honestly cost us. He improved and Coventry were poor in the second half.

I still don't know why Buchanan wasn't played!

I obviously watch too many telly adverts...

I'm pretty sure he scored a long range screamer - Wycombe?

On his full league debut McKenna did score against Wycombe. However, he'd already started two games in the Auto Windscreen Shield, a 2-0 win away at Chesterfield and a 1-0 defeat at York. He also came on as a sub for Kevin Kilbane in the 1-1 draw at home to Watford. So in that respect, McKenna wasn't thrown in the deep end as much as Davies was today.

Has Buchanan offered much going forward?

I haven`t see him play often enough to answer this.

But if not...then maybe he is not doing what is asked of him in that role by Westley...hence playing Davies there today...which appears to have been justified.

Funny how we bought the division one player of the season (last season) and Westley will not or cannot get the guy to perform in a postion where he is/was the best??

Davies had to be taken off today or he was going to cost us again probably by giving away a penalty.

Strangely enough, Davies hardly ventured forward at all despite having a hand in two goals. Buchanan is far more attack minded.

Fair point, your first one. Can`t really argue with that.

Second point..and I`m playing Devils Advocate here...could it then have been right for Westley to play Davies...AND take him off when he did?

If we had a strong captain on the pitch or him playing alongside a seasoned pro to help him through his first game then maybe so, he was left out to dry by Wright today and imho should not have started before Buchanan.

Wright is hardly a seasoned pro himself.

Nice One.

It was Westley who left him out to dry rather than Wright.

I don`t see many games, but it hasn`t sounded to me like he had been making many chances for our forwards recently. From that position, you expect to see a couple of good crosses being whipped in each game.

Understood..from your comments and that of others. Seems like Westley gambled, allright...and for once had some luck. It could have backfired badly.

I agree with you, all I was saying is that if Davies had been played alongside a seasoned pro or had a more experienced captain on the pitch to help him on his debut then his selection might have been a bit easier for the lad.

Very true, The fact that he didn't come into a tight, established defence makes his debut all the more difficult and impressive Bill. Tip of the hat to the lad from me.

Nice One.

I completely agree. I rate Bailey Wright very, very highly. I think he's a cracking player and has a great future. However, I don't think he needs that added pressure of being captain (yet). I also think he himself could do with playing alongside seasoned pros (let alone Davies). I think Wroe should be captain in the absence of Welsh. He's vocal and isn't afraid to give someone a bollocking.

certainly did not impress my part of the AKTE judging by the laughter that broke out when the MOM was announced.

Little boy lost was the general opinion round here. Certainly for the first half hour improved a bit after that but he just had to.

The only reason we got anything today was Stuckman

I thought he looked an absolute liability at first but improved slightly as time went on. Shouldn't be anywhere near the first team at present though. The real worry is why Westley felt he should start ahead of an established award winning left back in Buchanan. I think Buchanan will be gone come summer.

Exactly right.

All things considered I thought he did well.

Nice One.

I agree. Not sure what people expect from a 17 yr old in his first pro game?? Looked lightweight and nervous at first but got much better as the game went on, played a few good balls and put in a lovely cross for the equaliser. The fact that a lad so raw can come into the side and look decent on the ball compared to rest of the shite we normally endure speaks volumes. Roberston was utter gash today, and we carried Byrom for 70 minutes.

Fair play to Westley for giving him a run out.

Does it not concern you though that Westley felt he was ahead of Buchanan though. How Davies did or didn't do is irrelevant for me
