Confirmed Graham Alexander New Manager, Chris Lucketti as Assistant

Graham is an absolute genuine guy who loves our club, but our stay in the championship will sadly unfortunately end this coming May. It won’t be Graham’s fault or Heckingbottom’s or Lowe’s - and I personally don’t think under investment is the biggest issue ( though obviously could have been better) no it’s the god awful planning and recruitment that is the real issue.

The club has had zero transfer strategy for a decade, it seems like they just sign whatever they can get, players who are happy to just take the wage and turn up every weekend. Even though Westley was a shit manager, he had a clear transfer strategy which was signing players with character who would fight for the badge every weekend and some of those players became the best players at the club in recent memory. I can't think of a single player at the club who would even give a fuck if they got relegated right now.

I saw a bit more determination to win the ball back yesterday but one slip up against a good team and you'll be punished.

Alexander and Lucketti have such a big task on their hands.

Penfolds remit was to get a buyer within a 2 year frame. How long has it been now since he came?

What happens if no takeover is close to 2 years?
I might be wrong without checking but I am sure the 2 year scope was announced around Sept 2025.

We basically have until next summer in 2027.

Because most of them would be straight onto their agents, saying: ‘Get me the hell out of here.’

The inevitable fire sale/rush to the door by these gutless tossers will be a sight to behold next May. 😡

Since Penrose took over as Chairman last year things have gone even more to shit than usual.

Terrible league form, sacked a manager, appointment of a manager on heart over head, 2 dreadful transfer windows, losing proven Championship players to be replaced by no marks etc.

The takeover saga has done so much damage. It has probably dragged us into League One due to the state of flux, then panic it created over the summer.

The new owners need to be brilliant to justify the last 12 months shambles and the impending disaster of relegation which will devastate the club on and off the pitch.

In all of this Penrose has been virtually invisible and non-communicative even on the Manager position. Very poor indeed.

That assumes other clubs want to buy them. A large proportion of this squad are players that teams at a similar level to us wouldn't have anywhere near their team.

Thompson? Let go by Stoke
Valentin? Signed because Wednesday were in crisis, we needed a RWB and had nothing to spend
Lindsay? Stoke were happy to let him go at a cut price
Iversen? Let go by Leicester because he was third choice

Even the loanees
Burgzorg? Middlesbrough wanted rid
Gibbs? Couldn't get near the Norwich squad

It bares repeating that our current predicament is years of stagnation catching up and the problems we are seeing now are pre-existing problems compounding on themselves.

We haven't developed and sold a player for good money in a long time. We haven't bothered to expand our commercial revenue until this season.

We've not had a youth prospect break through and play consistent first team football since Josh Earl if we're being generous, Ben Davies if we're not.

We've only just set up an Under 21's team after years of our esteemed CEO calling it 'ballet dancing'.

You could even argue that looking at the wide variety of names connected to the manager's job is reflective of the lack of any strategy or off the field structures (e.g. no director of football) which are all a consequence of the Hemmings.

Unfortunately change takes time, especially change of any sort of magnitude. I get the desire to look at Penrose and query what's changed, but if we hadn't had brought him in, what would actually be better? Ridsdale would still have full control opening doors and not finding people, signing even cheap offcuts than we have now, fewer commercial deals and no Under 21's to at least potentially add value in the future. Probably even have someone like Gary Rowett as manager.

It's fairly poetic in a way that the Hemmings era began with relegating us from the Championship and may well end with us getting relegated from The Championship. The sad thing is we were in better shape last time. I don't half wonder sometimes where we'd be without Simon Grayson.

We're paying the price for years of neglect and an erratic transfer policy where we change strategy per manager (although I think this summer has been particularly poor). It's insane going into every window feeling like we need a squad rebuild. You won't build anything if you keep needing to start from scratch. Our squad generally has been on the decline since the 2017/18 season (some might say 19/20 season). Watching us recently has felt like when you're playing a game but you're just being completely outclassed and have no idea how to fix things. I can see players working hard and trying things but it honestly just seems to me like a real lack of quality is what's causing us to fail.
