I mean if the vocal people in the fan base where not such insufferable cunts maybe the owners would be a little more receptive.
An interesting disagreement between you both so perhaps I can add my two penneth to the mix.
FFP is categorically not the reason today of what funds are given from the Isle of Man to run the club. The totality of what Ridsdale is given is the choice of the Trust. Indeed, is you do a comparison between North End and a Championship club with similar turnover etc., we spend far less than them all. Ridsdale explained this (again) a few weeks ago with his “this is the amount I am given to spend” comment which, if you recall, is very different than quoting FFP and the pandemic as the reason. Yes, of course there is a ceiling to spending re FFP, but don’t be kidded in to thinking we are at that level.
Trevor Hemmings chose to wait until he had the club over an HMRC barrel before offering to buy back shares for a pittance. That was his choice. Having completed that process, he was beholden to do his very best for North End. Following his passing, I would argue that his family and the Trust have a duty to do their best for the club too. Ensuring the club just functions is categorically not the best billionaires can do - in fact, I believe it’s a dereliction of responsibility.
The ownership revels in being amongst lowest payer of footballer salaries in the Championship and then seems baffled at why we achieve nothing other than existing and why supporters get angry. The ownership believes that exceptionally gifted players can be bought for League Two fees. The ownership gives just enough money to give the very minimum in finances to keep what was a wonderful stadium ticking over.
Whilst Hemmings and the Trust oversee the above, I will, as a season ticket holder since the 1970s, continue to constructively criticise and refuse to accept the gradual decline that they bought in to following the Baxi years.
